A quiet industrial town set up next to a large chemical plant, Still Creek is anything but a tourist spot. In fact, there's barely anything there for the residents; a small movie theatre, a warehouse gym, and a run-down old video arcade are just about the only sources of entertainment, if you don't count the library which has been closed since the mid-00s. Locals have described Still Creek as "a town so dull, they forgot to put it on the map"- a statement which, for the first few decades of the town's existence, was entirely true. It took until 2004 for it to be put on any commercially available maps.
[break][break]
The town is a relatively new one, and, though it has no official founding date, it is recent enough that many older residents remember moving in close to the year it was founded, placing the date at sometime between late 1983 to mid 1984. It is likely that Still Creek was set up as a residential area for workers employed at the then newly-built chemical plant, but much of the documentation about the town's founding, population, and governing bodies were lost once the plant switched companies to GREENCHEM Industries in 1986. Any attempts to recover these documents have so far been unsuccessful.
[break][break]
Technology and infrastructure in Still Creek is somewhat lacking compared to the rest of the country. Broadband and cellular service, whilst present, are incredibly unreliable, and most households still use landline and dial-up internet services to combat this. The movies shown in the theatre are at least a decade old, as are the games in the video arcade, and the library, when it was open, also seemed to be lacking any books that were at all recent to the time period. Perhaps this is due to Still Creek's remote location- at the end of a dirt road, surrounded by dense forest, miles away from civilisation.
[break][break]
On the surface, despite its eccentricities, there is nothing that would immediately cause alarm about Still Creek. It just seems like an average run-down industrial town in an unfortunate location, with absolutely nothing unremarkable about it. However, there is something strange about Still Creek, something only the locals know about: the tunnels.
[break][break]
There are four entrances to the tunnel system scattered across the town in various places, but none of them are able to be connected. The tunnels accessible through these entrances are quite short, each ending with a large vault door that requires a nine-digit combination to open. All attempts to open any of the vault doors appear to have been fruitless thus far, and the tunnel walls are reinforced to the point where it would be impossible to break through them. The tunnels appear to be man-made, with concrete walls and steel reinforcements, and do not seem to follow any natural cave structures.
[break][break]
Aside from the tunnels, there are a few smaller anomalies that make Still Creek more than a little bizarre. Residents report hearing echoes where there shouldn't be, there is a siren that goes off one night every six months, the water supply is isolated and doesn't seem to be managed by any registered company, and everything always seems like you're being watched somehow...

Still Creek is somewhat unfamiliar with tourism. There's not much reason why anyone would choose to come here, let alone why they would stick around. Still, recent... online activity might have played a part in drawing in a few wayward investigators. It is a rainy day in November, and the overall atmosphere is drab and dull enough that people might be plied into conversation, if asked. Still, it remains to be said whether they'd be polite about all of this. Usually the only people they have to talk to are locals and chemical plant managers, and their unfamiliarity with newcomers may come across as a little strange.

The source of this newfound interest? Most likely a short video uploaded by a user known as "MHall92"- a young man (and close friend of Lisa) who filmed himself breaking into the disused town hall and looking for documents on the town's founding, but ended up finding nothing. In the video, he claims that his motivation for doing this was spending time in a "normal" town away from Still Creek. He says he was somehow blinded to all the discrepancies and eccentricities whilst living in the town, but moving away made him "come to the most horrifying realisation" that "this place is, like, totally fucked up". Despite his casual vocabulary, the young man did appear to be quite frightened when filming the video.

{ooc (+)}this is the open version of the initial still creek investigation, focusing on things on the surface like talking to npcs and stuff. there are probably a few people sitting outside under cover, and most public buildings would be open and populated.
