Perhaps it would be for the best.
Elia Lucia, Seraph of the Independent Territory of the Divine Appalachian Nation, stared at the city that surrounded her and did not know what to make of those words. Other words, she could have understood: It is the will of God or The Church requires this of you. The tone of the words the minister had spoken had been one of kindness, but the words confused her. It was not that she was unaccustomed to kindness, but rather... it seemed a strange thing, to be kind about.
She was here because she had been sent out into the world. The path God had set for her was to learn of it and report back to the Ministry and The Pastor - to keep them informed of what went on beyond the borders of the Divine Appalachian Nation, so that the Ministry could make informed decisions about the state of the world. It was not an ordinary task for a Seraph, but, as Minister Ford had told her, perhaps it was for the best.
The Seraphim had not ventured beyond the borders of the Appalachian nation, to Elia's knowledge, in all her life. Elia had certainly never ventured beyond the borders of the Appalachian nation before. She had most certainly never been in a city like this before.
The Appalachian Nation had cities - or, a city, Eden's Glory - the capitol and seat of the Church - but even that was a sprawling place, low buildings built over rolling hills for the most part. This city - Millennium City - seemed far beyond comprehension. Buildings stretched upwards, reaching for the heavens. People were everywhere, of course, but that was not so uncommon. The buildings, though, and the flicker of electronics everywhere, in the windows of shops selling things she never would have thought existed... it was a strange revelation, to be certain.
She had moved off the sidewalk, taking a position atop a coin-operated box full of newspapers reporting on a world she knew nothing about, and watched the city, and tried to make sense of it all. It was not simple - and indeed, such a place required her full concentration, with little room to concern herself with other things.
Perhaps it was, as the Minister had suggested... for the best.
