[attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I did hear him threaten your life,”
Scramjet remarked coolly. [attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I also have footage of you saying you’ll scatter his dismembered remains across the continent. Now, do we want to continue debating this, or will we do something productive, ma’am?”
The girl seemed to go for the latter, thankfully. Scramjet crossed his arms, keeping his eyes on her like a hawk as she drank some sort of energy drink like this was a witness interrogation and she’d been offered a soft drink. The casual nature of this entire encounter had already put him on his back foot, and the fact that the people here didn’t seem to give a damn about the law certainly didn’t help his mood. Nothing to be done— he wouldn’t lose sleep over it. If all criminals were courteous, he would have been out of a job long ago. Instead of antagonizing further, Rasmus gave a nod towards Fate— an alias the analysts on the other side of his visor were already looking into— and a glance over his shoulder at Spider-Bite once there was a request for an apology.
[attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I appreciate your cooperation, ma’am, but I don’t think we should let the fate of thermonuclear arms rest on the shoulders of pettiness.”
He tapped his foot once, then uncrossed his arms, walking towards Psi and keeping his back to the wall as he moved. [attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I don’t know about you, but I’d hate for civilian lives to be lost over a personal spat between two folks, yeah? Wouldn’t you agree, Spider-Bite? Fate?”
He hoped to appeal to both parties’ reason, but one or the other would hopefully suffice, here. [attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I’m sure we can all agree that this is bigger than us. I just want to make sure civilians are safe.”
The conversation was paralleled with Psi’s own explanation of his situation— one that Scramjet knew well enough, though the suggestion of Alvis Holt acting out of character certainly came as a surprise. Scramjet could tell he was about to get lumped in with the man, though, so he momentarily diverted his attention away from Fate— though he made sure to keep the woman in his peripheral, at the very least.
[attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”Now hold on— you can address me directly, Psi. On top of that, you’re making a lot of assumptions on my behalf.”
Firstly, there needed to be some sort of foundation to build trust off of. Hopefully, this meeting was a step in the right direction. [attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I came here with Griffonage and Spider-Bite because I wanted to talk to you myself. We don’t think you’re a lost cause— we wouldn’t be here if we thought that, kid.”
Now came the hard part— honesty.
[attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I was here to try and convince you to return to Dr. Holt’s care,”
Scramjet stated, crossing his arms. [attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I understand you have your reservations. This changes things. I won’t force you or try to convince you right now, so let’s move off of that. I’m not here to arrest you or return you to this Agency group, either— what I wanted to do here, first and foremost, was get your side of the story.”
Scramjet took a step closer, hands clearly shown. The kid was a telekinetic, so he didn’t want to make any sudden moves— especially with Psi’s track record of collateral.
[attr="style","display:inline;text-shadow:0px 0px 3px #b671c2;"]”I think answering a couple questions about why you got this way is fair play, considering you nearly dropped a building on a few of us a couple days back, kid. People talk, and they’re going to see somebody who is out of control. The more collateral you cause and the more you isolate, the easier it is for the Agency, Alvis, or anyone who wants to see you brought in to point at you and paint you as a villain. I do not want that. I am here to try and clear your name, if I can, and get the truth. I know you say you want to do it your way, but I’m not convinced that it’s the right course of action, given recent events. Is that fair?”
