"Yeah, well, you're a lot less of a dick when you're not wearing the mask," Alex replied, hoping her good-natured grin was indication enough that she wasn't being too serious. Admittedly, Cassidy hadn't made a great impression at MCU, but he was a lot more pleasant in this sort of interaction. Maybe that weird costume had done something to him, or maybe it was just that anonymity made it a lot easier to be nasty, because you could assume you'd never have to deal with the consequences of your words. It worked for most people on the internet, at least.
"I'm not going to kill anybody who isn't an active threat," Alex clarified. "If they're already locked up, they've got nothing to fear from me. And it's not like I'm going out of my way to find reasons to kill people. I don't enjoy doing it. I just don't think there's any point in prolonging the decision unnecessarily."
That was really the crux of her disagreement with the Jurors. They seemed to subscribe to the notion that killing an opponent was only acceptable if you made the decision to do so in the middle of a fight, rather than accepting it was necessary beforehand. Sure, that was more reasonable than Cassidy's flat-out refusal to consider it as an option, but it was still disingenuous- especially for a pair of government agents. How Scramjet could condemn Alex while knowingly working for the same institution that drone-striked weddings was beyond her.
"That works for me," the Solar Sentinel said, relieved. "You focus on finding a better solution, I'll be ready to do what's necessary if you can't."
In a different world, maybe Alex would have been able to take Cassidy up on his offer of forming a... community super-team, or whatever he'd been suggesting. But that didn't feel like it was in the cards, even if they'd been able to mostly come to terms. The age of superhero teams was pretty much over at this point. Sure, there was MIRA, but they didn't exactly seem to be accepting applications, and an explicitly government-affiliated group was a far cry from the Front Line of Society of Superheroes. Besides, the eventual fates of both those teams were a testament to the failures of that model. Which was precisely why Alex was more interested in working with the Society of Supervillains. Sure, they were never going to have a gift shop or be on magazine covers, but they were the ones prepared to get shit done.
"Look, you don't need to apologize, I'm the one who showed up unannounced. But... I'll certainly think about that offer. And, hey, if you ever feel like seeing what Earth looks like from space, give me a call. My new pad has a hell of a view."
Daystar winked, then got up from where she'd been sitting and walked over to the window, opening it up to the cool winter air. She couldn't be seen flying away, else it would attracted unwanted attention to Spider-Bite's secret identity. Instead, she went invisible, absorbing photons rather than letting them bounce off of her, and then flew away, suppressing the sonic boom so that the only trail she left behind was a slight distortion in the air.
After Alex was gone, Cassidy would notice something sitting in the briefcase containing his suit that hadn't been there before- a slip of paper containing a phone number and a sketch of a stylized star.
