The Innkeeper took still another look around the inn and its grounds, always in constant preparation for the strange and unusual people that would pass through this way. Sometimes, an Innkeeper knew a client would be coming well in advance; other times a person just showed up without warning and sometimes with an angry mob at their back.
Well. The Inn was welcoming to all - if they could make it there, in any case. Murder was frowned on beyond the threshhold - that wasn't to say that such a thing had never happened, but it certainly hadn't happened at this particular in. It was a stain on one's honor - both for the Inn in question and the perpetrator. Honor was important to an Innkeeper, especially with an Inn that was as unfortunately named as this one. It had been due to an unfortunate incident with a thesaurus and a synonym for the word "rest," without any thought for the consequences of the phrase as a whole.
There didn't seem to be much more that the Innkeeper could do at present, and certainly not about that. Things were well maintained, at least for the next five minutes, and the only thing to do at this point was sit back and let the guests mingle.
Oh, and make sure nobody got eaten.
Chela extended a foreleg, testing the tension in the web she had strung up across the outside of the Inn's composting middens. It was a good place to have a web. The compost thrown out might have been mostly plant matter, but it attracted all sorts of interesting creatures. She had already caught three ring-tailed trash pandas and a Terran poodle.
The owner of the latter had been a guest at the inn and quite emotional about the entire matter. Chela had courteously invited it to come into the web and retrieve the remains, and for a moment it had seemed the distraught creature truly was that non-sentient, but then the Inn's grounds had shifted in a strange way, and suddenly there was an additional space and an earthen wall between her web and the other customer.
Ah, well. She had tidied up the strands of her web and made sure it was perfect for the next time something came through. At least no one seemed to mind about the ring-tailed trash pandas. They did seem to be everywhere, across thousands of worlds. They got into things, as the saying went.
Recently, they had gotten into her web. Chela clicked pedipalps in satisfaction, and ascended to the height of the new retaining wall to watch and see what new arrivals would be coming to the Inn today.
