The air was colder up here. More brisk. The atmosphere, the air, was a bit thinner too, all the way up here.
At least my lungs could handle it easily enough.
That and suit made the change in temperature bearable, not that it was much needed considering my exoskeletal-like skin and metabolic ability to produce more than enough heat to keep me warm.
I sat along the edge of the roof of the skyscraper, hundreds if not thousands of feet up, as I peered below in the bustling city below.
I could make out quite a number of things, especially with the mask on. I zoomed in on the occasional pedestrian or shop before looking towards something else. Anything else.
Anything else to take my mind off what happened earlier.
The NanoSym, as much as it felt pressuring Lark may be deserved, expressed its own doubt. Where had it gotten either of us? Where had it gotten me?
Forget it. I needed to clear my head.
Even if I knew I should have been better. Better than those I fought or what I suffered. Better than this.
I looked at my gloves before pulling off my mask. I thumbed it in my hands, staring into those large white lenses.
Who am I? What am I now?
What have I done?
I shook my head and lowered it down as I set the mask to stay on my lap. I began dangling my legs, moving each forward and backward in opposite directions as I just lost myself in a daze, grabbing hold of the ledge as I did so.
Maybe the cool air will help me.
One can hope.
