Everything began to shift around me.
Nothing from my sixth sense.
Nothing at all.
Well, at least, when it came to the little time travel bit. Lark reaching out for me, time traveling to get close enough to me fast enough to bypass my own speed?
I sensed that, albeit at the last second.
And that absolutely sucked.
Because everything was the same. Same street. Same alleyway. Just different people walking around.
And the two homeless metahumans were nowhere in sight. Two homeless metahumans that just happened to be potential threats and intent on ending human life for their own sense of justice.
And Lark, one of my friends, someone I trusted, had chosen in their infinite wisdom and time traveling experience, to help these two escape. Even after what the young man had said.
Lives may be lost due to Lark's reluctance, or lack of, when it came to dealing with these individuals.
And exercised no such thing when it came down to me.
So, as much as I know this person I called friend, I was forced to ask the stupid, unnecessary yet important and pivotal question. The crux of this entire exchange upon which this all rested on.
"What did you just do?"
