Manhattan is the most densely populated and geographically smallest of the five boroughs of New York City. It is the urban core of the New York metropolitan area, and coextensive with New York County, one of the original counties of the U.S. state of New York. Manhattan serves as the city's economic and administrative center, cultural identifier, and historical birthplace.The borough consists mostly of Manhattan Island, bounded by the Hudson, East, and Harlem rivers; as well as several small adjacent islands. Manhattan additionally contains Marble Hill, a small neighborhood now on the U.S. mainland, separated from the rest of Manhattan by the Harlem Ship Canal and later connected using landfill to The Bronx. Manhattan Island is divided into three informally bounded components, each cutting across the borough's long axis: Lower, Midtown, and Upper Manhattan.
Long before Millenium City rose to prominence as the Meta-Human capital of the world Manhattan held the title as home to many of the worlds most powerful heroes. Being a financial capital of the United States Manhattan was a prime target for villains who wanted to score big as quickly as possible. With the rise of Millenium City into popular culture Manhattan became little more than a vigilante's paradise which is why it drew the eye of Daniel Nishino.
His arrival made a statement as his personal army of constructs began patrolling the streets and his Penthouse apartment slowly became a massive beacon of power to those with the capacity to see it. Local media came to their own conclusions but, many of them were favorable given his soldiers only attacked criminals. The fact that they were summons also helped him avoid the label of superhero team or gang, he was simply an individual with incredible power. His first debut came when the villain Eclipse arrived in Manhattan and Daniel's capabilities were shown off to the fullest extent. Taking to calling himself the Monarch of Manhattan has lead to a split in opinion among heroes & law enforcement.
Daniel's soldiers make quick work of the various street level crime that goes on in the city, police who attempt to abuse their power, and heroes who utilize overly brutal methods. Some consider this a hostile takeover similar to the way that the Mettle Gang asserted control over the Bronx while others praise his efficiency and ability to fill in gaps where other heroes can't be.
