I'm running late.
Very late. Almost five minutes late. Almost the story of my life at this point. That and the craziness that was Millennium City with the superheroes, supervillians, ghouls, devils, wizards, aliens, and everything else in-between that you could shake a stick at.
And that was without mentioning Duskburg, which was its own bag of troubles.
And today, the cruel mistress of fate dealt me a cold hand indeed.
But today, I couldn't afford to be late. Not on this day. Because this was a special delivery pizza delivery I was on. When my boss handed me the address, I recognized it almost immediately. I tried getting out of it. I did not want to be the one delivering a pizza to that place, especially with my track record.
Now I had to book it if I wanted to make it on time. Or, well, reasonably late, if that was possible.
That wouldn't get me in much trouble, right?
Swerving in and out of traffic, my moped sputtered and pushed forward along the streets of Millennium City. Of course it had to be rush hour. Why couldn't it be any other time? Braking every five seconds was going to throw my back out at this rate, if not for the crazy drivers that made these same roads their home. I nearly got thrown off my bike with a door flying open as I was trying to drive and maneuver my way between vehicles.
This was taking forever. I checked the watch on my phone.
Five minutes late starting now.
Nope, not today. I was not ticking off the so-called "anti-Christ".
The symbiote smirked. It knew what was happening next.
I pulled over and shut the engine of my moped off.
Then I lifted it up and ran with it into the nearest alley.
And out the other end, Spider-Bite took to the skies with a strange bundle covered in webbing strapped to his back and a couple boxes of pizza in hand.
Soaring through the air at speeds that almost made it seem I was flying along like any other caped metahuman, I leaped and bounded off several buildings, leaving cracks in their outer brick walls. Slingshotting myself with webbing at every straight and narrow street and alleyway I could find, the air rippled around me as I dived one last time for a final swing, the ground and people rushing up to greet me.
Finally, nearing the location, I curled into a ball and swung upwards before releasing and soaring outwards with my legs stretched.
I landed on a rooftop a couple buildings away before leaping down into a nearby alleyway. The suit disappeared and my regular pizza delivering uniform was back on and the moped released from its bundle and back on solid ground.
Starting it and pulling up towards the building that had the matching address to the one I was given for the delivery, I stopped the vehicle one last time, setting it in place on the side of road with one wheel on the sidewalk.
I wouldn't be long. Actually, depending on what time it was now, I would not be long for this world at all.
Won't be the first time, won't be the last time I'll be late. Just roll with it.
The symbiote tensed. While not concerned with the particular address, it was concerned about the particular residence inside. After all, with my luck, I might get something worse than no tip.
I walked up before ringing the buzzer and knocking on the door a few times.
Don't worry. You'll only get a dagger to the face. No biggie. It'll be a real slice.
That was a good one. I should use that one. Not sure if Kore would like it though.
