A long long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
AT GALAXY'S END
After the defeat of Darth Malak at the hands of his redeemed master, Revan, the Galactic Republic struggles to stand against the many forces that now threaten it as it recovers from the wounds of war.
Nearly a decade ago, the Mandalorian clans began their crusade against the Republic, the Sith had offered them the chance to fight the greatest battle the galaxy had ever witnessed. Under the leadership of the greatest among them, Mandalore the Ultimate, the Mandalorians brought the fires of war to many planets along the Outer Rim. Along the outer rim, they won victory after victory, conquering world after world until the Republic mobilized their fleet to counter the encroaching Mandalorian threat.
The Mandalorians proved more than a match for them, pushing further into Republic space until they begged the Jedi Council for aid. The Council, who already knew the great pain of war from their previous war against Exar Kun, chose patience and caution as they assessed the Mandalorian threat and debated as the Outer Rim burned. It seemed the Republic would have to face their enemy alone, until a pair of Jedi Knights directly defied the council and left with their supporters to face the Mandalorians. These two would be known as Revan and Malak. They chose to face their brutality directly on the battlefield, turning the tide for the Republic.
Revan proved themselves as both a warrior and tactician, fighting the Mandalorians to a stand-still, and then began pushing them back into the Unknown Regions from whence they came. Many thought of Revan, Malak, and those who followed them as heroes of the Republic, but war leaves many scars, some which never heal. Through battle, these Jedi adopted a fierceness and brutality that mirrored the Mandalorians in ways they could not admit.
At Malachor V, Revan faced down Mandalore the Ultimate with the entire Republic fleet at his back. The Republic forces crushed the Mandalorian threat, slaying their leader and destroying their fleet with the use of a superweapon of unimaginable power; The Mass Shadow Generator. The Mandalorians who survived were stripped of their weapons, armor, and Basilisk war droids, and were forced to watch beneath the burning shells of their warships as Revan’s forces destroyed them and left them to wander in exile on the Outer Rim with nothing left to hold onto except the honor of the battle they had lost.
After the battle, Revan felt something drawing them to the Unknown Regions, and so they took Malak and a third of the Republic fleet with them, saying only that they were pursuing the last of the Mandalorians and promised to return.
For a time, the Republic enjoyed peace and tried to rebuild where they could. Their enemy had left wounds across the galaxy, many of which still bleed. Planets like Cathar, Serroco, Eres III, and many more were left in ruins, leaving countless refugees and millions more dead. Still many were relieved that the war seemed to finally be at its end, but the Jedi were not so convinced.
After a year of silence, Revan returned to the Republic with an army of war droids, defected troops, fallen Jedi, and a massive fleet of ships Rumours circulated of a “Star Forge” where the Sith had supposedly crafted and supplied their massive fleet, but none could verify its location or even existence. Now christened ‘Darth’ Revan and Malak, they brought the Republic to the brink of annihilation, until Revan was captured by the Jedi. With his memories suppressed through the force, they sought to find the location of the Star Forge and end the reign of terror of his former apprentice, Darth Malak.
Above the skies of a forgotten world, Revan defeated Malak aboard the Star Forge, a massive automated shipyard of ancient dark design. Finally, it seemed the galaxy could lick its wounds.
As their memories returned, Revan once more journeyed to the Unknown Regions, leaving behind all they cared for and loved, knowing that where they must go, they must walk alone.
That was almost two years ago, and even now the galaxy still bleeds from wounds inflicted by both the Mandalorians and Sith. The Republic struggles to maintain peace and order where it can as the stalwart Admiral Carth Onasi strives to rebuild it stronger than before, as his friend Revan had commanded, but the threats from within and without suffocate an already dying Republic.
Beyond its limited reach however, the galaxy remains a lawless and chaotic place. Organized crime and rising corporations like the Exchange, Czerka, and the Hutts move against each other, reaching out and taking whole sectors of space, feeding into the corruption that plagues the Republic and planetary governments. The Jedi, once the heart of the Republic, is now shattered and divided, with many being lost or turned during the wars. Now, there are whispers of a nameless fear, hunting Jedi in the dark corners of the galaxy as they are too weak to retaliate. The Sith turned on themselves, as they always have, reducing their empire to ashes and leaving Korriban scorched and barren once more, leaving very few students of darkness to wander.
The galaxy of this era is a turbulent and chaotic time, but through this chaos, the Force still flows and heals itself, and brings together unlikely beings on a distant planet, where the Hutts rule far from the eyes of the Republic.
