After the bustle of Millennium City, a place like Charleston seemed quiet.

It was still a city, to be certain - still larger than Eden's Glory - but it wasn't quite so much of a change as Millennium City had been. It was... colorful, with brightly painted houses. There was something pleasant about that, in people glorifying the place that they lived. The ocean moved in the distance, a sound that seemed strange to her landlocked upbringing. Again, though... it was not unpleasant. She walked through the little square among the colorful houses, full of little shops selling things made of seashells and other trinkets. It was apparently a tourist area, which was another new concept. The Independent Territory of the Divine Appalachian Nation did not really have such a thing as tourism. Pilgrimage, perhaps, to The Pastor's Church in Eden's Glory from people who lived in the more rural areas. Perhaps it was a similar concept, but less glorifying.

Then again, God's glory was in all things, from the ocean to the colorful houses to the sky above. Elia bowed her head, folding her hands for a moment of prayer, to give thanks for such things, and then moved on, peering curiously at a preserved sea star.

Such strange creatures, that God had created.

Morgan saw herself as rather crap at being a hero, and her current goals didn't sound like those of a hero. Today didn't seem like it needed her to try and be one though so wasn't all bad. The lady of shadows had lost all her family besides her sister, then her sister was slain to. Isabella probably deserved it as far as most were concerned but that didn't make it easier to swallow. That didn't stop being haunted by ideas of revenge. It didn't change the fact ghosts told her to want revenge.

So she was on a cross country venture to reach Duskburg. From home to crap dumpster of the world. Today though she was not in a city that smelled of blood and whatever else. She pulled into a parking garage parking the black dodge challenger of hers. Well her dad's he was gone now and after a night of arguing with his ghost he gave her the keys. Not like a ghost could likely keep the keys from her but that was the besides the point. And so on her venture the violet haired teen came to Charleston.

The Memento Mori costume rested under her civilian clothes. Well minus the cloak she kept that in a backpack would of looked weird trying to tuck that under something. Jeans and a Frontline shirt were her choice of wear, the neon blue words of the once team the only real semblance of color. Finished by a black leather jacket from her Mom, she didn't mind that at all. She'd rambled on for some time though about the younger days and concerts she'd gone to in such wear.

In stark contrast to the colorful houses Morgan wandered the tourist spot. A lot of it wasn't her style but she saw the occasional jewelry that reminded her of mom, or things that used fish bone to remind her of her sister. Leaving her debating on buying something we'll at first. Morgan soon though remembered her limited funds she had to watch on her trip, anything left in her name should go to getting by right? Maybe just take it and run? Her sister totally would have ran off with the choker with shark teeth sown into it. Wasn't to expensive either so maybe wouldn't be slighting the shop keep to much just...

That's when she saw a nun? A crusader out of time? Was hard to fully wrap her head around what she saw seemed more colorful and open minded then a nun least by Morgan's perception. The whole spear and armor though made her look ready for smiting. Was a good deterent to being a thief though. Idea of being stabbed rather uninviting to the teen. Conversation then over thievery perhaps spark up conversation. Besides religious nuts were good for advice right? Couldn't be worse then the ghosts she talked to regularly.

"Hey uh can I ask something? Is revenge like okay? The whole eye for an eye stuff has been on my mind lately." Maybe should have tried a friendly hello. And maybe something about a ghostly teen talking to a crusading paladin would draw further eyes. That involved more tact then Morgan had however. Pausing briefly she sighed "sorry, Morgan Naicitrom."

When compared to the gridlocked sprawl of DC, the hazy industrial chaos of Baltimore, or the towering, frenetic claustrophobia of Philadelphia, Charleston had a sort of peace to it that couldn't easily be stated. Sure, it was a sizeable place, and tourists - snowbirds and beachgoers alike - milled about the shops in crowds, but there was this certain laid-back quality to it that made it difficult to compare to the cities further north. Maybe it was just the mild air, or the smaller buildings, or the abundant nature everywhere, grass and trees filling long, open strips between the city's buildings, not quarantined to iron thickets. Whatever it was, it was relaxing.

Sidar's flip-flops clapped on the sidewalk, her arm looped tightly around Rasmus', head resting on his shoulder.

"You know, I used to have a hermit crab when I was younger," she murmured, glancing to the side as they passed a storefront advertising them. "I took it out to play once, and it snuck behind the bookshelf when I wasn't looking. Took us a whole hour to find it."

She shifted, lifting her head. A few feet ahead of them, a strange-looking woman stood to the side, talking to a teen in a leather coat. Unlike the tourists all around, dressed in t-shirts and sundresses and jorts, the woman wore a full suit of armor, complete with a flowing cape, spear, sword, and shield. A smile crept onto Sidar's lips. She didn't recognize the outfit, but she thought she recognized the intent. Was there a convention going on? Maybe she and Rasmus could stop by, if the crowds weren't too bad.

"I love the costume," she called, pausing as they passed. "Is it from something?"

Elia wasn't entirely unaccustomed to people coming to her with questions - the Seraphim were a very visible extension of God's arm, after all: His Hand bearing His Sword. While in the Divine Appalachian Nation, the people coming to her with inquiries would know whom they were asking and what to ask about, out here things were quite different. Most people had been polite, though, and Elia gave them credit for that. She didn't mind the stares, either - visibility was important to God's work, after all.

The woman who came up to her with that question, though - Elia thought she likely needed more help than Elia was able to give. It was a question for the clergy or the confessional, really, not so much for her nor for here. Still, she didn't really want to leave it unanswered, as often there was a certain amount of courage that needed to be present to ask at all. The second woman's question, on the heels of the first, was far easier to answer, and Elia turned and offered a smile and a pleasant "Thank you," before adding, albeit gently, "It's more of a uniform, really."

Maybe that would be enough - for some it was. A simple exchange of pleasantries, with no need to worry about anything more than that. Elia returned her attention to the more difficult matter, the first question. The quick exchange of pleasantries had given her mind a chance to work, and the answer, when it came to it, was actually disarmingly simple.

"No. Revenge is not okay. Christ taught mankind to turn the other cheek. Vengeance - not revenge, vengeance - is an act of God. It is for Him and Him alone. He taught us this through the words of His Son. Men are not God, and to act as if they are would be a sin against Him and against His teachings." Elia looked the woman - Morgan - in the eye as she spoke, confident and certain, unflinching. Having said what was needed, though, her tone softened somewhat and she added, more gently, "If y'all are feeling like you need some revenge, though, your clergy person might be able to help guide you through those feelings."

Morgan found someone else joining them, well two someone's. And while she was all for company it also kind of caught the ghostly complextiomed teen a bit off guard. She was used to talking to ghosts more then people. The intro from the woman just also got Morgan thinking she might be the idiot amongst adults. She liked the idea of some Holly warrior, wanted to believe it could be a thing. It sounded like it might be a costume though? A convention maybe or some stunt for a movie perhaps. Which then came with a sigh however, if wasn't some actual paladin then maybe heaven and hell wasn't a place spirits went. Which could also be a relief as Morgan was pretty sure she knew where her sister would go in that case.

A response came though to shoot such thoughts down. Plus side sounded like this was the real deal, downside sounded like she was supposed to do nothing and may have to even accept a certain outcome.

"So the difference is what who's avenging and that it should be you and not someone effected personally? Uh sorry" She paused realizing she probably wasn't making much sense. "My uhm sister wasn't a good person and kinda went off the deep end when are family past. But then someone killed her, she might have even deserved it but like she's still family there's still ghosts waxing poetically about payback..." And now she was saying she talked to ghosts. Maybe she should stop before ideas of burning a witch at the stake started coming to mind.

Quick look for a subject change. "What brought you three here. Oh is it like a honeymoon for you two?" Which she did like the idea of of course. However going from "I see dead people and am the vengeance in the night" to that question probably had negative amounts of smoothness to it.

Rasmus Kask was a man who kept his work life and his home life separate. Such was the ultimate benefit of a secret identity, the flexibility, and it was a benefit he intended to reap as long as humanly possible. Scramjet was the one dealing with superheroes, bless his heart, while the common man like Rasmus was able to make a comfortable living free of interference with a loving wife who shared the same outlook as him. The closest Mr. Kask ever came to superheroes was through the posters on his classroom wall and the line for autographs at conventions. And maybe when his wife dressed up in-costume for him. But that was it— he had a no-capes policy for anything else, and by goodness, he wasn’t going to get involved with any super-fiasco while not explicitly hidden beneath helm and suit. Mainly because he could make whatever face he wanted at people, then. Even nasty ones.

Unlike now, where his expression of skeptical concern was on full display as the two super— metahumans discussed the intricacies of vengeance and biblical kindness. He gave a glance to Sidar as the lecture continued, eyebrow quirking as sheer surprise took him at what they’d walked in on. At least Sidar’s question had been answered, he thought, and looked back to the two other women as the more sullen of the two asked if they were on honeymoon.

Rasmus looked to Sidar and smiled, eyes flashing with imminent mischief as he launched into the same joke he told everyone when they asked if they were married.

With his vaudeville punchline delivered, Rasmus immediately glanced back to his beloved and his smile deepened into borderline unbearable levels of smug childishness.

Her own form of revenge, though not nearly as concerning as the first girl’s idea. Rasmus sufficiently basked in Sidar’s reaction to his habitual ribbing before he once more engaged the other pair, this time with the same playful nature he’d employed with his wife.

"Oh! I'm sorry, I feel like an idiot," Sidar replied, smiling apologetically. "I assumed you were going to a convention. Are you a hero? My husband has a bit of an obsession -"

She glanced at Rasmus. He was breaking into a very typical response, as if playing the part of an 80s sitcom husband, complete with ribbing his wife about his marriage. Sidar shifted, folding her arms, eyebrows raised, lips a thin line. It was a song and dance they'd played a hundred times before, but somehow it hadn't grown old for him.

She wouldn't admit it, but it hadn't really grown old for her, either.

"I've already thought of how," she replied to the mention of paying him back, winking slyly. Then, she turned her attention back to the pair. "I'm sorry to bother you, especially if you're just taking the time to relax. I know how stressful it can be - I work in a high school."

She laughed, short and light.

"Not that it's even comparable to hero work. We both appreciate what you do, truly, and you deserve the rest."

"I'm not a hero, ma'am," Elia returned, choosing to take the easiest of the questions first. She meant no harm by the words, though, and gave the woman a smile. Teaching was always a respectable profession. Young minds had much to learn, after all, and needed wiser folks to shape them. "Just a servant of God."

They seemed like a nice couple, but when Elia turned to the man, there was some confusion evident in her features, uncertain how to approach things, or whether he was being serious at all. "Is... cats in trees really a problem around here? One you need heroes to sort out? Because where I'm from we usually just figure they'll come down when they're hungry and leave 'em to it." Maybe if a devil got into the cat somehow, then it would need some sorting out, but regular cats weren't really something that Elia spent much time considering.

And that left the other girl, the one who was talking about vengeance and a sister and ghosts, of all things. "God'll sort your sister out, miss. If anything needs doing, he'll see that it's done one way or another. If the ghosts are a problem... I'm not qualified to do an exorcism, but I know several folk who are. If you want help with that, y'all just ask."

Morgan never took well to church goers at school, they sort of by default clashed. At times though it was more then that, they had a certain view that seemed either narrow or focused. Morgan liked to think focused, her sister the other. Point being it could at times feel detached such as how it felt now. Morgan felt like as much as she wanted answers none were coming thanks to a belief. Although she was willing to accept it may be her so unsatisfied with answers she didn't want to label them as a answer. Her feeling guidance was going to be a let down seeming to only grow as confusion came about the mention of cats. Morgan swore this lady had to be affiliated with that no technology allowed and rock music is the devil kind of communities.

"uh it's a old saying. Heroes didn't always deal in big dramatic fights." She hoped that would be enough clarification. It wasn't like Morgan did a deep dive into hero history, no way she'd have afforded being shipped to MC to have attended the academy or something. "Far as I know nothing going on. I was just visiting on my way to Duskburg." Morgan didn't have best access to news however, she just had her phone notifications on and adjusted settings to help know if something criminal or villainous popped up.

She really had just been here to pass through. Heading on down to find out who killed her sister, and if she listened to the ghosts, ripped a killer's soul right out of their chest! Morgan though wasn't convinced completely though which was why she'd bothered a apparent paladin. "I like the ghosts for what that's worth." What she didn't say was further elaboration on the like haunting peer pressure. How she felt like the paladin was telling her to just accept that Isabella was in hell sent there by somebody and reacting to that was forbidden.

That was to much doom and gloom though. "What do you teach? Congrats by the way, it's not always easy to find that. How long has it been?" Apart of the ghost whisperer also liking such stories. Used to hate it but recently such movies, or stories reminded her of people she didn't have around anymore. "Also don't sell teaching sort. She probably had to be taught how to use a spear, I needed to learn uh stuff." She stopped herself before getting to detailed there, saying "taught how to drain life forces or go through walls" didn't sound noble.
