Genna nodded, taking a bite from her own food. With how much she had nagged Dan about eating earlier she couldn't just not eat either. He would be sure to give her a hard time about it, and he was eating. She knew he could go days without remembering to eat a thing and that wasn't healthy for him. Especially with his athletics. Dan needed to keep up his strength if he expected to do well, or at least not pass out on the track. That wouldn't be ideal. The team beat themselves up enough if any type of incident occurred, they took their sport super seriously. Sports had never beed her thing so she didn't see it, but she supposed her love for shopping was similar. Shaking her head she looked at the television, unsure as to what they were watching. She wasn't a big movie buff, but she would agree that it was a nice distraction.
The movie had been the perfect choice for a distraction for all three of them, and one soon turned into three. By the third movie, Finn was nearly asleep on Dan's shoulder as it had gotten late. Dan reached over, nudging Finn awake and getting them up off the couch. They'd stay in Dan's room like usual and Finn already knew that, with them already headed that way with Dan after a goodnight to Genna. It was odd, having both of them here staying at his apartment since it had been so long but he welcomed the change. Dan came back from his room after a few moments, going back to Genna again. "You look exhausted. You should get some sleep," he said, rubbing the side of his neck as he briefly checked his text messages.
The movie night had been good for them, though every movie went by in a blur as Genna nodded off here and there. Dealing with her mother took a lot of energy, it wore her out a lot. By the time the last movie ended she was laying with her head on the arm of the couch, her feet curled up underneath her. Her gaze shifted to Finn and Dan as they moved, Finn going towards Dan's room and Dan coming back out a few minutes later. There weren't a lot of places to sleep here and she wasn't going to make him sleep on the floor in his own apartment. She really should have fought to leave sooner, if anything she could have gone to a hotel for a night. "I should go." Genna mumbled out, forcing herself into a sitting position and stretching her arms above her head. It wouldn't be the first time she's driven while tired, she's had to do it for numberous different reasons before. Mostly partying. Half the time she had been drunk, she wouldn't recommend that. "You and Finn both need your rest and I'm sure my mother is asleep by now."
Dan raised an eyebrow at that, crossing his arms. She really was trying to go back there after everything. "You need your rest too. You aren't going anywhere. There's space for all of us, you know," he reminded her; on more than one occasion he'd had multiple people stay in his apartment, with no one being squished. "I'm not taking no for an answer. You aren't going back there. Especially when you said you were staying for a bit to get away from it since you can't go to Shiloh's." There was no way he was letting her go home or pay for a hotel; sure, they were rich and had he money to do it but it wasn't right to him. Not when she could just stay with him. "Everyone else thinks my couch is comfortable. It even turns into a bed. Why are you trying so hard to back track on it?"
"Because I don't want to push you out of your own apartment?" Genna crossed her own arms, a slight huff leaving her lips. Sure he's had multiple people here before but she was sure it wasn't easy. Although they have slept in the same bed together before so she didn't really know why she was fighting it either. Maybe it was the fact that all of this was still so new, she still wasn't sure how to act around him. It was easy to fall back into their old ways, but a part of her would always regret what had happened between the two of them. There was no simple fix, and she couldn't just let it go but she would try. "Besides, she's going to bring it up no matter when I go home and I have to go back at some point, I have no clothes here." Of course she could always buy new clothes, she had her credit card. "Unless we go shopping tomorrow...and I just keep clothes here..." she smiled innocently, she wouldn't turn down an opportunity to go shopping.
"You aren't pushing me out of my apartment. Finn's staying with me in my bed. Not like it's small," Dan said, shaking his head. Of course she was still going to try and be difficult. "My apartment isn't small, Gen. There's space. You've slept comfortably on my couch before." It was strange to think of that, and for a moment it was like nothing had ever gone down between the two of them. It was still going to be something they had to work through, but this was a start; they fell easily back into how they used to be, at least somewhat. He wasn't letting her deal with her mother so soon after the incident between them; she needed a break before her mother started something again. He raised an eyebrow at her suggestion of shopping, staring her down with a look she knew well; the 'are you kidding me?' look. "Seriously? Ugh, fine, whatever. I have class in the morning, so after that. And we have to be back before I have to go to work."
"Fine, I'll sleep on your stupid couch." She relented after a moment. It was pretty comfortable but she wasn't going to admit it to his face, she was being defiant. Much like she's been before, mostly again when she was drunk, she would fight him on a lot of things. Good thing she didn't really drink like she used to if she had anything at all. A glass of wine here and there was about it. Genna looked at Dan with the same innocent smile, blinking as if she had absolutely no idea what he was going on about. He's been on her shopping sprees before and he always complained about them; she couldn't blame him since she did take a long time but she would try to be quick with it tomorrow. Try being the key word. She didn't want to wear these same clothes for however long she was going to be here, that was gross and she was a bit of a fashionista. Admittedly the fashionista part has calmed down considerably since Shiloh entered her life, but she still liked, loved, clothes. "I know how to behave...I think."
Dan rolled his eyes at that, pinching the bridge of his nose. It felt like he'd been trapped into her shopping spree plan. "I swear, if you make me late for work I'm hiding all your shit. And I'll make sure you're bored as hell until I come home," he threatened, though he couldn't be fully serious. As much as he hated the shopping sprees and would have preferred staying home, it was nice being able to do something they used to. He knew Genna would have dragged him out of the house either way no matter how much he protested...she was dead set that it would help him in his state, she always was. "Just...don't wreck my place or set it on fire when I'm not here. That's all I ask." Not that he thought Genna would destroy his apartment, but a playful threat between friends was nothing.
"I'll just run around naked if you do hide my stuff." Genna wasn't shy when it came to her body, she had a lot of confidence. Now that didn't mean she would strip down and walk outside, men would stare, but in the comfort of her own room or somewhere she felt safe she had no problem doing so and Dan knew that. She's walked out in nothing but a towel in front of him before, he was like her brother so it didn't bug her any. Shiloh was on the other had extremely shy so she didn't do it around her, but she did feel comfortable over there too. Not much scared her, except for her past self. That dark part of her scared her a lot. "Hey, I only set fire to the stove once and it wasn't my fault! The directions weren't clear." Her parents hired people to cook for them so she had never touched a stove before back then, she was a little better at it now. She couldn't cook a gourmet meal, but she wouldn't starve if she were on her own. That was something to be proud of she felt.
"Of course you will," Dan muttered, a heavy sigh leaving him. This was it. He was in for a lot of being pulled out of his home while Genna stayed with him. Though, a smirk made its way across his lips as she brought up setting her stove on fire and an idea came to him. "Does this mean I have to bring you along to work again? You can watch me take care of the animals like you used to," he said, crossing his arms. Genna had tagged along to his job many times before with the permission of his manager, and he knew tomorrow he wasn't helping run any of the shows the aquarium held in the exhibits. He'd been told he would be mostly in the back handling feedings and general daily care with his supervisor; he was only a paid intern, so he wasn't on his own most of the time. "My supervisor loves you. Even after the whole penguin incident."
"No, I know how to use a stove now thank you very much." It took some time but Genna had taught herself how to cook at least small meals. An egg with salt and pepper, pasta with some sauce, simple stuff to keep her from starving at least. She couldn't do anything close to the professional chefs her parents hired, but she was still proud of herself for what she could do. Maybe she would just have to show him one of these days, if he trusted her enough to use his stove. "The penguin incident was not my fault!" The girl who had a crush on him caused it, he knew that, but that wouldn't keep him from picking on her about it. He just loved teasing his friends, at least it meant he was in a good mood when he did. "We'll see, I wouldn't want to distract you from your work if I fell into another exhibit." Genna rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, a small huff on her lips as she sat back on the couch. She was feeling pretty tired now, dealing with her mothers antics really took a lot out of her. "I'll still need one of your shirts to sleep in."
"How could I forget?" Dan asked, shaking his head. The reminder of the random girl was enough to bring a headache; she was so into him where he had no interest, but her jealousy of Genna got the best of her. To be fair, he did find it a bit comical at the time even though she had pushed his best friend in. "Come on. You wouldn't distract me from work. You never did," he said, holding his hands up. "I'm not forcing you either way. Come, don't come, it's no big deal." He turned to head back into his room, grateful he didn't have to be too careful about making noise. Finn was, luckily, a heavy sleeper; they wouldn't budge, especially since they were so tired. He stood in front of his closet, a hand on one of his shirts that lingered longer than he'd anticipated. Despite the teasing he'd done moments prior, it felt like his brain was still spinning. Maybe it was the fact that this was his first real moment alone since he'd spilled details of Bree to Genna. He'd meant to get rid of the shirt he held onto, he hadn't worn it since... Ignore it. He forced himself to snap out of his thouts, reaching for another shirt that he brought back out to Genna. He tossed it her way. "Here. This one should be comfortable," he said quietly, grabbing one of his blankets for her.
Genna took the shirt, holding it out before her with a shake of her head. It's been a long time since she's had to wear his clothes, but it felt familiar. How many times had he carried her to his apartment because she had been too drunk to drive home? Too many to count. The party girl lifestyle had been fun while it lasted. She swiftly stripped down to her undewear, folding her clothes and setting them on the end table before pulling his shirt on. It smelled just like him, somehow dangerous and yet warm at the same time. There was no easy way to explain it but it was comforting. Something about Dan had always screamed 'safe,' even when he wasn't being safe. "Maybe, but I'm staying far away from the penguins." She huffed, curling into the corner of couch with her hands under the left side of her head like a pillow. Much like how a child would lay down. His couch was comfortable, but she had already known that with the amount of times she's passed out on it. Of course there had been plenty of times she stayed here while perfectly sober. "Mmm, I'll decide in the morning."
"And the penguins will stay far away from you," Dan said, stifling a yawn. Today had been a particularly rough day, and despite the yawn he most likely wouldn't get much sleep. He was just perpetually tired when his lows came around, especially when he had worse days than usual. "Hope the couch is what you remember and all that," he continued. "I'm sure you'll wake me up in the morning to tell me your answer before I go to class. If not, I'll force it out of you when you make me go shopping," he shrugged. The more he thought about being forced out to shop tomorrow, the more okay with it he felt. As much as he didn't want to leave his apartment for anything that wasn't essential to him, he was glad that he was keeping Genna away from her family for a while. She needed the break, and though their friendship was relatively new to them again he was always more than willing to give her that escape. Though, the thought reminded him he had a call to make to the guys tonight; they were waiting on him. "I'll see you in the morning. Fingers crossed Finn isn't a bitch to wake up tomorrow, hopefully they'll shut up and make breakfast," he said, turning on his heels with a mock salute to Genna before he headed back for his room to make himself comfortable on his bed to call his friends.
Genna rolled her chocolate eyes, pulling the blanket around her with a soft yawn of her own. The penguins avoiding her seemed humorous. "If I even want to get up that early." She was a better morning person than most, but she did enjoy sleeping in whenever she could manage. Her parents nagged her to do things constantly so it wasn't as often as she would like. Here she didn't have to worry about them and that brought her some peace of mind. They could be a bit much, her mother moreso than her father. Honestly she couldn't wait to get away from them for good, but there was still a few things to be done before that could happen. Things she would think about later. She muttered a goodnight in return, biting back a small laugh at his predicament with Finn, and shifted to curl up into the back of the couch. The air was still, peaceful, lulling her to sleep with every passing second. "We'll have fun tomorrow Dan, you'll see." She mumbled sleepily, drifting off a few moments later.
