As the festivities of the night started to come to a close, Caelum had excused himself and made his way back to his room after a long day of greeting guests and foreign dignitaries. All of his fathers lords had attended, as did countless envoys even those from the far off Noxos Imperium. Each had come bearing gifts and well wishes, and Caelum politely greeting and thanked them, making sure not to rush as his father instructed and by the time it was over, he had bearly been able to enjoy his own party. As he made his way down the white halls of Luxerna, Caelum's mind drifted to the following day, where he would bid farewell to his family and join an honour guard who were to take him to the Temple of the Asteriums. His heart fluttered at the thought, nerves of finally having to live up to the expectations of the world, but he did his best to put it out of mind. Arriving at his room, he pushed open the heavy oak door and entered.
The room was lavishly decorated, as all were in the royal palace, with a thick red carpet stretched across the floor, golden floral vines stitched around the outside. The room was separated into two, a higher and lower area, that was divided by a raised dais. On the lower area was a pleasant living space, filled with bookcases on one side and a sitting area on the over, in front of a large fireplace that the servants kept burning even through the day. The walls were lined with ornate pillars, as well as a few decorative pieces such as a pair of sword and a map of the world. Stepping up the dais was where he slept, a large bed sporting the finest silks that could be imported took up most of the space, with several chests nearby for storing his clothes and personal effects. Behind the bed two sets of glass doors that led out onto the balcony, overlooking the town. Not ready to sleep yet, Caelum made his way outside to gaze out of the town. The sounds of celebration still echoed through the night, many fo the common folk still enjoying the food and entertainment. In the courtyard below was a ring of pillars with a larger pillar in the center where the Celestial Crystal floated above, shining a brilliant light that swirled around, changing like light through a prism. Surrounded the courtyard and down the street were small lampposts, each holding a small gem inside that provided light for all. From here he could see the stalls that had popped up for his birthday, selling all manners of goods from all over the world. Men and women danced in the streets to the music of bards, with children running rampant as they enjoyed being allowed to stay up late for the event. Caelum went to turn away but suddenly his heart skipped a beat, as if something had happened. Turning around, his eyes scanned over the area again, before focusing on the Celestial Crystal.
The light inside the Crystal gradually dimmed, before a swirling purple and black mass formed inside. There was a cracking sound, and looking up to the sky, Caelum could see the invisible barrier that protected the city. A solitary crack sat across it, which widened and spider webbed across the dome, fracturing all around them before finally it fell. Shards fell towards the early, disappearing before hitting the ground and silence hung over the town. No more laughter, no more music, just an eerie silence. Breathing heavily, Caelum looked out over the town again. Nothing. Until a series of explosions rocked the outer wall.
Rocks flew high into the sky in a fiery blaze, falling down to crush buildings and people alike as smoke filled the air. Just about to head back down, Caelum spotted the huge hulk of a monster making its way into the city, nearly twice as tall as the other buildings. Its mammoth black frame was bulging with muscle, two red horns either side of its bulls head. Down its back was a streak of fire, from its head down to its huge tail that could crush stone. There was several monsters, equally large but different different twisted. Screams rang out as a horde of smaller monsters flooded into the town, attacking everyone in sight. Caelum rushed back out of his room and down towards the courtyard. The people had to be protected, and he had to find his family.
