In a red desert of sand and stone, thousands of malnourished prisoners toil away to build an altar nearly fifty meters tall. Their crimes? Some are murderers, some thieves, some are deserving. However, many more toil away for crimes they could even control. The crime of speaking out as a woman, the crime of having the wrong color skin, the crime of being born different. These prisoners, no better than slaves, will toil til they die. Their children will inherit their crimes and toil on after, continuing the cycle of barely living, working ceaselessly, and dying meaninglessly.
The Great Theocracy of Jeremiah, a bastion of power, justice, and faith since time immemorial. Known for their great cities, intolerance of the strange and different, and their slave built altars to their cruel god. Having crushed every nation and people from this point to the Eastern Dead Sea, The Theocracy's power is unquestioned. Slavery is deemed acceptable because god hath revealed this to be just through the words of the high priest. To disagree with the high priest is to disagree with god, an offense punishable by slavery. No one dares question, no one dates step out of line.
But something is changing. The elder slaves are saying a new wind blows from the east, and the witch doctors, practicing their magic in secret, say a dark power rises in the west. The slave masters feel it too, for they have begun to select the most loyal slaves for training and arming as internal prison guards. Word among the traveling slavers is that a powerful necromancer is behind the changes in the East. The United Feudal Dukes have requested help in the north to safeguard against an unknown insect threat. And, to make matters worse, the Stone Men, previously thought eradicated, are amassed in force in the west.
It is in this tumultuous time that our slaves have found a way to freedom. Of the two hundred and fifty guards stationed at the massive slave mine, one hundred and fifty are being recalled away to safeguard the nearby western city of Solana. Understaffed and recruiting heavily from prison population, if there ever was a time for a prison break, it is now.
This is a trial run for a massive world I want to piece together and create into a cohesive sandbox rp type scenario. This world is a lost human colony of the far future. Their technology, due to wars and lack of abundant resources, has fallen into decay and ruin. Theocracies and dictatorships rule the world. Although called aliens, the diverse true inhabitants of the planet are oppressed by a massive human population. I want this is be pretty freeform, with the goal being our characters starting as slaves and attempting escape.
It's a low fantasy setting with light magic elements. High technology is so rare you're more likely to find someone capable of casting fireball than you are to have a working firearm. You are free to make your character magical. But you are better off giving them latent power rather than abilities if you're seeking to get that approved. I'll post a basic character sheet tomorrow. But I wanted to get this out there to get the general feel and see if anyone is interested.
IMPORTANT.
This is a collaborative effort, I encourage you to build unique characters and add to this alien world in your backstories. But keep in mind, your character sheet is more than an explanation of who you are. It is most importantly an asset tracker. Abilities. Items. Skills. If it isnt in your sheet, you dont have it. To be put in the sheet, it either needs to be added in and approved by me, or acquired in the rp.
