Life is kind of a drag sometimes, you know?
-Akina Ogami, 17
We all know what’s expected of us, grind our noses through twelve years of public school, win the rat race to get into a good college, and once you slug through that finally land our feet in some prestigious office job for however many years we got left. The people who don’t make it are failures, and the people who didn’t even try? Just forget their names. Yeah sucks don’t it, this game society has decided we must play? Now, I can’t change the world, heck I’m not even sure if it can change, but I can offer something just as good; a distraction.
Now, in order to incentivize a ’community focus’ and a ‘feeling of belonging for all students’ or some other similar nonsense, Shinjuku Academy requires all students to engage in at least one after school sport or club activity. Now, in the spirit of this phenomenal use of student’s free time I am pleased to announce the Shinjuku Paranormal Investigation Club.
Now I see you rolling your eyes but hear me out. See, I think the world is more than we think it is. Weirder. Larger than we understand. No, I don’t have any of those schlocky stories of when I was eight and something creeped its way out of my closet or made my door rattle and quake, but I do have something better. See, while the rest of my class was off wasting their time studying I was living it up with a camera in grubby old buildings that were more woodrot than walls. I got tapes. See, I think the paranormal is more common than we realize, that it's something we just overlook in our day to day lives because common sense tells us that those old stories are just that and the shows on TV are nothing more than grown men jumping at their own shadows.
The fact you haven’t walked away yet makes me think you’re interested, or maybe you’re just here for the sideshow, all the same if the academy is forcing you to join a club there are worse options. And if I’m wrong, then we can just watch some 80’s slasher films in our club room or some shit.
Beats track at least.
