It is only in Darkness, where Light can shine the brightest.
In ancient times, both men and gods walked alongside one another, each prospering in their own way. Men worshipped the gods, giving them their power and immortality and in return, the gods watched over mankind and blessed them with bountiful harvests and hunts. The two worked in harmony, in what was known as the Mythic Age, which scholars believed was the height of knowledge, culture and prosperity. Until the Shadow Lord came.
None now alive know how the Darkness crept into our world, only that it shattered the age and ushered in the Age of Despair. Monsters roamed the land, laying waste to much of the great ancient cities so that only broken ruins and remnants remained, and while mankind fought hard against the beasts, it was too much for them. Seeing their way of life threatened, the gods set out to defeat the Shadow Lord and restore order, only to fall. Hundreds left to face the Darkness, only twelve returned. Wounded and bloodied, they were unable to defeat the Shadow Lord, instead locking him away deep beneath the earth. The last twelve gods then returned to the heavens to take their place as the Asteriums, the greatest and most powerful amoung them the Goddess Sol, who took on the form of the sun, burning brightly so that the worst of the monsters were forced to flee, so man might know peace. But each night her wounds take their toll, forcing her to rest, and the Lord of Shadow's power encroached on the void. The monsters rise to attack anything in their way, until the Asteriums gave one last gift to the world.
From the heavens fell gems of light, capable of dispelling the darkness and keeping away the monsters, falling through the earth between rock and stone. These gems were used to light up small towns and villages at night, or held within lanterns for those travelling in the dark. Lastly, twelve great crystals fell from the heavens, one for each of the Asterium, and were claimed by the powerful rulers of men. These were known as the Celestial Crystals, so powerful and bright that they could dispel demons for miles around, and were placed in the capitals of the great nations for protections. Greed and envy would prove to be instrumental in the downfall of humanity, as kingdoms and nations, both old and new, fought with each other over land and the control of the Celestial Crystals. Some were even splintered, split into smaller chunks so that they could protect other countries and to this day, only three of the original twelve have remained intact.
The world went on, crystals exchanging hands as kingdoms and republics rose and fell, until a prophesy was foretold. Nearly twenty years ago, in the Kingdom of Luxerna in the 12th year of King Kendric's reign, his wife gave birth to his second son. Each Celestrial Crystal or its shards lit up brightly and shot a beam of light high into the sky, piercing cloud and heaven alike. The Church of the Asteriums declared this child to be the chosen, who would purge the world of the darkness that had held sway for thousands of years. Kendric named his son Caelum Corvo Cadrius, and ensured the boy had the best upbringing, learning from the brightest minds and trained by heroes and generals. Over the years the boy grew into a fine young man, and developed a natural talent for magic. On the day of his twentieth birthday, a great festival was thrown to celebrate the prophesied hero before he made his way to the Temple of the Asteriums to be told of his divine duty. However dark forces are in motion, seeking to stop the prince.
Under cover of darkness, the envoys from the Noxos Imperium deactivated the power of the Celestial Crystal somehow, leaving Luxerna vulnerable to attack. Demons and monsters attacked, cutting through the populace and burning the city as they sought out the prince. Even King Kendric and Prince Imrik would not survive, giving their life so that Caelum could escape with the aid of another. Together, they would set out on a journey to heal and the world, and drive off the darkness.
(Looking to have a one on one RP, with my partner helping me with the world building and lore of the universe through OOC. The basic idea is that the two would travel from nation to nation to help them with their troubles and secure alliances while Caelum grows his powers through communing with the Celestrial Crystals, while dealing with the Noxos Imperium, monsters and the Lord of Shadows. If interested, please let me know, I'll either take on the role of Caelum or if you would prefer to RP as him, I'll create a C.S for his companion.)
