The year is 1898. On a beautiful summer day in Germany, the Metternich family welcomed two healthy twin baby boys.
One was named Gunnar, and the other was named Konrad.
Gunnar proved to be an astonishing individual. His physical prowess earned him the admiration and jealousy of his peers.
Meanwhile, Konrad possessed a stunning intellectual mind and a dangerous ability to adapt. His pursuit of science and art began early, as did his obsession with achieving immortality.
Gunnar always followed his brother's orders without question. Konrad always decided where they would go and what they would do. Some would even come to consider Gunnar to be dull, but Konrad refused any insult to his precious brother.
They were too young to enlist into the First World War, but that didn't stop them from lying about their ages. This would be the initial leap into the macabre that Konrad had been searching for. Abandoning his lessons and scholarly goals, he became enamored with death and bizarre sciences.
Before long, Konrad came to command his own brigade. Soldiers destined for the meat grinder regardless of where they went soon disappeared as part of Konrad's increasingly psychotic fantasies.
Gunnar obeyed his brother, no matter how grotesque the order, loping along behind him and proving to be an indispensable bodyguard.
The horrors witnessed and inflicted under Konrad's command were called brave by his superiors. He was issued the Iron Cross and several medals for exemplary conduct.
Konrad never once stopped on his self-imposed quest, not even during the socioeconomic collapse of the German Empire following its surrender. He would steal fresh corpses away from their graves and perform ghoulish experiments in the dead of night.
By day, he would give speeches in the ruins of colleges about his growing sphere of influential pseudoscience. The youth he corrupted would follow him into the Nazi party as it exploded with popularity and support.
The rise of the Second World War caused Konrad to develop what could only be referred to as a God complex. With the entire treasury of a new burgeoning war machine at his disposal, Konrad could now act upon every cruel impulse his warped mind conjured without repercussion.
The first surgery he performed was upon his very own brother, Gunnar, who had dedicated his existence to serving his beloved sibling for better or worse. Konrad managed to master the art of cloning by mass-producing a small strike force of Gunnar-type soldiers. These all displayed an unflinching loyalty to Konrad as well as modified strength and healing factors. They shrugged off sleep or fatigue, and protected him at all hours throughout the war.
They were known as the Schwarzeherzen, the "Black Hearts" of Konrad Metternich. Their distinct hulking physiques and featureless black masks became iconic pieces of propaganda and horror.
Throughout the war, Konrad also had unlimited access to the bodies of living and dead prisoners. He abused this fact without remorse, separating families and driving countless souls to ultimate despair. But, by the end, he had achieved his lifelong goal: immortality was within his grasp. He truly evolved into an unmatched savant in his chosen art of defying the laws of nature. Genetic manipulation was his main method of sowing terror, mostly by unleashing undead monstrosities or any modification of his precious brother Gunnar's DNA.
He did the same for himself, of course, and backed his existence on genetic records he would keep in stasis.
These were corrupted following the Soviet invasion of Berlin, however, and his personal file would developed a massive flaw on his face. Instead of correcting this, which would require years of trial and error, Konrad simply opted to model his future bodies to be generated without a head or skull.
He designed the resulting limp brain to be suspended in a life-sustaining solution of his own creation sealed within a bulletproof glass dome. This would be his most recognizable feature following the Second World War as he committed himself to terrorize and conquer the human race.
Ultimately known as "Master Mind", Konrad amassed a new flock of followers and created a terrorist organization steeped in fascist ideology and symbolism. Backed by a force of genetically-modified monsters and wielding scientific anomalies thought impossible by human achievement, Master Mind wages war against all things decent in the modern age. His crusade against justice and freedom is the rallying cry of a lost generation. Neither he nor his loyal servants will stop until the world shudders at the mere mention of...
