Growing up in a derelict neighborhood with little prospects and even fewer opportunities to move up in the world, Randolph Desmond Rhodes found himself doing everything he could to help provide for his family, his relatives, and even his closest friends. His people, his home, his family would always be those who stuck by his side over the years. When he soon developed and discovered his powers after an incident with one of Monarch Solution's laboratory research sites, Desmond opted to pursue his ambitions in order to look over and care for the people he cared about. The rest of the world could go hang itself for all he cared. His talents would find him venturing into crime and thievery while his intellect and wit would find him creating the super-suit and gadgets necessary for his illicit activities, as well as forming different criminal connections. After all, with the newfound gift of his powers, why not use them to help benefit those he cared about most in this whole world?
Donning his new attire, Desmond became the one and only Sensational! The Infamous Spider-Menace!

His reputation within the Duskburg district and Millennium City at large is rather mixed. Acting in his own self-interests, Desmond used his alter-ego Sensational to steal high-end items for various clients and organizations. As long as the price proved to be worth the risk, Sensational would prove himself to be among one of the best super-thieves in the world, if not the best. Not a single blemish on his record, no matter who tried to interfere with his missions. On the other side of his criminal equation, Desmond worked as part of Millennium City and Duskburg's crime lab department as a forensic scientist. The access to federal and law enforcement information as well as any potential evidence that could be used against him would find itself altered or missing.
On the other hand, his criminal activity and reputation never involved itself in taking lives or operating like a common super-crook. That would bring down trouble he did not need. Sensational was a thief, a spy, a master of espionage, both corporate and criminal. Desmond always kept his cards close to the vest, and he always was careful, always had a plan. Those plans never involved being a scumbag or murderer, although he fought his fair share of them. All manner of mercenaries, crooks, and rivals. If a job involved something he disagreed with, Desmond ensured that job and whoever was behind it was shut down. For good. Occasionally, to help keep himself off more serious radars, Sensational would give back to the community and neighborhoods on occasion as well as donate large sums to charity and such. While these donations were usually anonymous, Desmond made sure those receiving his ill-gotten gains knew it was Sensational. He did the occasional act of goodwill, and, if nothing else, he looked out for his community. Someone had to, especially during times of crisis. Duskburg was his home and a home for others like himself, as much as he hated it there.
Those kinder acts helped ease the guilt on certain days and nights, and it was not like he needed all that money. It was all for his family, he kept telling himself. His family and an easy retirement for all of them. Then he could put down the mask and call it a life worth living. One full of adventure and fun. There would even be a happy ending all around.
However, no matter how long someone does this type of work, someone always finds out.
Eventually his family and friends--the people who mattered most to him--found out about his secret identity. The cost of his secret being found out resulted in one of his friends being hospitalized. Disappointment and distance was all he could find in their faces, worse than any anger or discipline--although there was plenty of that as well. Burgeoned by the guilt and feeling like an outcast to the people he cared for most in the world, Desmond has been occasionally been doing acts of good and shifting slowly away from his life of crime. The real question is whether Desmond can commit to this new lifestyle of superheroism or if he will crash down harder than ever before.
