TRAGIC BACKSTORY
He had a wife and two children. They had a peaceful life in the state of Illinois, a job at a local factory and he earned a stable income, and could be with his family everyday. All of that changed upon returning home one day. He found his wife mangled and mauled, as if she was run over by a train, her innards splattering the whole kitchen and what appeared to be her empty skin lay folded on the seat of the chair. He…he remained frozen for a time as he watched in dread and despair. Even he has no idea how long he was like that. The law enforcement later found his children in a similar state upstairs. Heroes got involved in the case and it wasn’t long after that the man responsible for the crimes had been caught. But here’s the deal, they let him go citing insanity.
The system failed him, was not able to serve justice to the man whose entire family had been slaughtered. Just a day after the court gave its verdict, after 7 months of the incident, the man finally snapped. He snapped in all senses of the word. His neighbors would always describe him as compassionate, kind and caring, but they and the whole world was about to see a side of him they could not have anticipated.
Because he did not just snap in a metaphorical sense of the world. Something awoke inside of him. Something cancerous, something that saw heroes, law enforcement and the entire justice system as being handicapped.

Erwin Emerald got married to his wife Sabrina Jewels on March 6th, 1981. Ten years later the couple had two lovely children, Ethan who was 5, and Samantha who was 7. When they moved to Illinois after Erwin got the job at the factory, neither could have anticipated that it was the home of the villain ‘Press’. Neither of them were big on watching the news. That was their undoing.
Seven months and after having spent thousands of dollars on lawyers and witnesses, the court finally ruled in favor of the villain. The despair he felt at heart was immeasurable. He was a normal guy and even as the villain ‘Press’ was smirking at him across the aisle, he could do nothing but try to avoid eye contact but how could he? Every so often he looked at the guy with bloodshot eyes. He had been in and out of therapy but it did not do a thing to help with how he felt. He drank but that did not help either. He saw haunting shadows of his wife cursing him, his children’s laughter and cries as they were tortured out of their skins- he watched it all on cctv. How could he not have seen their final moments?
He wished. He wished to bring an end to his own ineffectiveness. He wished to bring an end to his weakness. He wanted to be able to deliver justice so that no other family had to go through what he did. That night as he sat there in the living room in front of the TV, replaying some old videos of his family on one of Ethan’s birthdays, he heard a voice call out to him.
“Do you want power?” The voice was feminine. He looked around but saw no one around. “I can give you what you want.” continued the voice.
Erwin’s first thought was if he was drunk but he had been sober for the trial and he hadn’t even opened a bottle that night. Heavily sighing, he got up from where he sat and moved towards the kitchen counter top. There was a small container of sleeping pills. He could no longer sleep without them. Was he addicted? He wondered to himself.
Even before he took the pill, he felt a gut wrenching pain and he collapsed onto the floor. “LET.ME.IN!!” The voice grew closer and louder until the voice grew so high it felt as though his eardrums would burst and he put his hands on his ears, screaming from the pain he felt.
As for his neighbors, concerned and grieved though they were for Erwin, they knew this to be a daily episodic thing with him now. He would cry himself to sleep and that would be the end of it. Yet that night was different. Whatever was calling him from beyond had finally caught up with him. It shattered his inhibitions and it possessed him.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Erwin is a brown haired white male and stands at 6’1”. Beneath the all black suit and helmet that he often wears, Erwin is fairly well built, which came to be a few months after he first received his powers. He has a scar right along his right chest, a wound he received on one of his first missions against a villain. There’s a giant gash along his back and some minor scarring across his torso and arms.
DESCRIPTION OF HIS GADGETS
Visor: His helmet’s visor is built from a bullet proof material and has electronics and integrated VR augmentations built into it. It has a radio that can tune into radio frequencies used by law enforcement agencies, and carries relay technology that can broadcast his voice across any on air channel (though Erwin has not used this function)
Reinforced Polymer: His armor suit is made of a flexible yet durable fiber mesh that absorbs impacts with it to a certain extent. This allows him to jump off heights that would normally be deadly to a human being.
POWERS & ABILITIES
Pain Empowerment: Erwin feeds off of pain and suffering. The more anguish he is surrounded by, the stronger he becomes. Conversely, he is weakened by happiness and peace.
Lie Detection: He is able to tell when someone is lying to him. This is an ability born of the injustice he suffered, and the mistrust that he has for people in general. It makes it easy for him to trust people, and at the same time, he tends to forget that humans are complex creatures, and he’d rather kill you than question you about it.
METHODS OF INFLICTING PAIN
Blaster 650: The Blaster 650 is a laser weapon that can melt through metal on contact, with an effective range of 300 feet, equipped with a standard scope for added accuracy. It uses charged up cells instead of bullets with each charged cell carrying three minutes of continuous fire (though continuous fire will lead to overheating after just three seconds, forcing the weapon to cooldown)
Dango: Dango is a katana with a black blade, made of super sharp and durable alloy, able to cut through most things when enough force is exerted into its thrust.
