A blaring of horns could be heard from televisions all across the country at 7pm, sharp. A familiar logo spun in from the edge of the screen, coming to an abrupt stop dead center. The announcer-
-dutifully got the show started.
The logo shrunk into the bottom left corner of the screen and the title card faded to a middle-aged African American man and a Caucasian woman, notably further along in years, sitting comfortably behind a beige desk. Both wore vibrant suits and forced smiles as they read from the teleprompter.
"Hi, I'm Adrian Baracca"
"And I'm Melissa Baron."
"And we've got quite the interesting story for you today, folks. Grammy award-winning Sheila Peelya had quite the scare last night at her summer concert down in Carnegie Hall."
"32 year-old Micheal Froston climbed up onto the stage, tore the microphone from Sheila's hands and tackled her to the floor."
"We've got some footage here from the event."
The high-definition broadcast transitioned to a comparatively low-definition recording of the event taken from a high vantage point looking down onto the stage. Sheila continued singing whatever popular drivel that had been paying her bills until a heavy-set caucasian male took the stage and proved New 22 honest as he violently tore the microphone away from Ms. Peelya. With labored breath, he spoke:
By now, the man was racing through the unnerved, parting crowd. Security hot in pursuit as the words bellowed out from his throat; tears running down the side of his cheek and fear written all over his face.
He hit the ground hard, and the audio fell to static as the microphone rolled across the floor. For a few more moments, he cried. He cried until security beat him unconscious and gave him some momentary- albeit brutal- peace.
We return to our News 22 hosts.
"We at News 22 were unable to get ahold of Ms. Dabushka, but we were able to get in contact with Mokketsville authorities who confirm that Ms. Dabushka is perfectly fine."
"Reports confirm that Karen Dabuska, Mr. Froston's ex-wife and previously Karen Froston, recently divorced him and put out a restraining order on him when he refused to stop harassing her, afterwards. Mr. Froston then went on to spread conspiracies regarding the nature of his wife's departure. The incident at Carnegie Hall is just the latest of his public proclamations."
"Just sounds to me like Mike can't handle a little rejection."
The two hosts burst into a brief fit of laughter that slowly faded into a near-synchronized pair of sighs. With not an ounce of empathy in either of their hearts, they turned back to the teleprompter and smiled.
Adrian cleared his throat.
"In other news..."
