Curiosity bumps into Ollie’s outstretched arm and stays there, one hand idly coming up to lower her arm just enough for the android to see over. They notice that the planetoid seems more contemplative than normal, and give her arm a pat in hopes of cheering her up.
Ahead of them, Mr. Roboto stops in his tracks, turning around and looking down at the floor where the littlest station has just glooped downwards. His red eyes scan the ground, confused and intrigued.
Behind him, the metal child falls from the ceiling, another projector in its grasp. Like before, the hologram cuts out once the wires stretch to the point of breaking and fully disappears once it hits the ground. With that, they finally get a good look at what, exactly, is going on back here.
The tunnel opens out onto a small circular platform, a balcony overlooking a large room, and the lack of a railing offers a perfect view of what can only be described as a factory floor below. There is a wide array of work stations and whirring machinery, staffed by androids of various sizes and shapes. They are all working in tandem, and all of their lights are glowing in the same shade of red.
Curiosity wraps part of her cloak around Io as the child joins them in their huddle, the gesture as protective as it is reassuring. She leans forward without moving, zooming in and scanning the crowd, surprised (though she really shouldn’t be) when she finds several familiar faces. She recognizes them from the missing bots reports, but this is all wrong. They were supposed to be missing, maybe powered down somewhere or lost and in need of directions home, not… whatever this is.
Mr. Roboto looks up at the broken wires above, then takes a few steps forward to stand underneath where the projection previously was. He spreads his arms wide, now backlit by the steady red glow of machinery and workers, and smiles. The wires above him twist and lengthen, still sparking as they mirror his movements, fanning out around him. “This is all you need to know; Welcome to your new home.”
Behind the trio, there’s a loud crashing noise as something falls from the ceiling of the first hidden room they discovered. A look back would reveal an android the size of a vending machine picking itself up off the floor and moving to block the exit to the tunnel they’re in. A single red light blinks in the center of a round head atop its blocky form.
“Ollie,” Curiosity calls, gathering the cloak from off his shoulders and offering it back to her, “You’ll probably want two hands for this.”
