Nobody really knows mister Sazerac. Most folk would say that he is no one of import. Others would recognize that he runs a small fishery from Coldharbour. More than one barkeep would say that he is a fine patron, but the bookies would eargerly point out that he definitely has the stench of bad hoodoo on him. There is, as usually, a bit of truth in all those statements.
[break][break]
Admittedly, Daud Sazerac enjoys cloaking himself in this mystery. He wears obfuscating garments for the express purpose of blending in. For good reason, as the true nature of his business tends to attract unwanted attention that could... complicate things. It stands to reason that cities, particularly their nastier parts, are Sazerac's favored terrain.

Much of Daud's beginnings are clouded. He remembers a stormy night, the cold and dampness under the ramparts. Then being found by an older halfling couple. The woman's name was Miss Sazerac and she was hedgefolk, a kind of white witch who could recognize the boy for what he was and what he could become without a guiding hand. They took him in, fed him, clothed him and soon came to think of him as their son. Admittedly, the rowdy boy was not the child one would pick for themselves if they had a choice, but he was eager to listen and learn.
[break][break]
His teens were more rebelious, indulging more and more time on Praach's streets. The night life was intoxicating at first, but the boy quickly recognized that he and his peers were only numbing an emptiness inside. This place was a drunkard's dream somewhere one could forget any responsibilities.
[break][break]
Deep in his soul, Sazerac's heart ached for more. A sembleance of adventure.
[break][break]
At age 17, Daud sailed away from the King's Port after sneaking into the barge of a trade ship. He made it all the way to the Port of Nydoorin, a wondrous city half a world away. One of where swords were strangely curved, the rich donned exquisite silks, wore bejeweled turbans, and kept captive these beautiful large cats whose magic fueled much of the city. It was there that he found himself as a smuggler in the port. And it was at that port he would become known as the Tiger of Nydoorin for his role in the Paash Uprising.
[break][break]
Daud slowly came to view himself as nothing more than a roving whirlwind. Weightless and temperamental, moved by whim rather than purpose. His yearning heart prompted him to return home and broke altogether when he found out that his foster-mother had been murdered in her own home.

The latter actually accounts for most of the stable income throughout the year and keeps the business afloat so to speak. Cargo salvage tends to pick up the slack during off-season, where sea-travel to Praach becomes much more treacherous.

[attr="class",DaudContentBodyFontSize]The real nature of his business is highly illicit, requiring the transport and facilitation of contraband within Praach. The members of this smuggling operation are known as the Red Reins and his own alias is The Coachman. Only a handful of people know the connection between these two identities and Daud has gone to great lengths, repositioning other criminal elements within the city, to keep it that way. The Borrowed Hands are one of the few healthy alternatives to the Thieves' Landing smuggling ring with much less attention drawn to them.
[break][break]
Generally speaking, the Red Reins can get most commerce in and out of the city walls without much issue or fence stolen items for someone. They mostly shy away from moving weapons shipments and anything that could earn them the ire of both the Veiled Lords and the much larger Thieves' Guild. Their continued survival amidst much larger and ruthless criminal enterprises hangs on the fact that the Reins are somewhat insular and do not expand agressively and unnecessarily.

Eldritch experimentation coupled with unsophisticated erudition are the cornerstones of Sazerac's quest for arcane grails. Much like his foster-mother he is a hedge-mage, albeit one who endeavored to look past tradition. After extensive ventures into the world he has been enlightened and shaped by both it's wonders and horrors. He has a number of at-will effects which he can call upon, such as the ability to detect magic or alter his form. Admittedly, the brunt of his repertoire is tailored towards supportive workings with emphasis on versatility and security.

Their records are kept in a grimoire as a sizeable number of these acts take form of rituals and require significant investment of time and resources. Particularly weather workings fall into this category of which Sazerac acquired understanding while on the sea.

Although his capacity for the art of magic is laughable compared to reputable wizards, Daud makes up for it in the martial realm. Swordsmanship enhanced with tasteful application of cantrips and hexes is where Daud truly shines. Neither does he shy away from the use of breastplates and lighter armor unlike the esteemed mages of the world. Part of his accord with the eldritch forces around Praach allows him to insert a portion of his very will into his weapons, rendering them practical extensions of his body.
[break][break]
Most astonishing is his ability to make use of unorthodox weaponry such as the chakram, whose mastery he picked up on the streets of Nydoorin. Daud is quick on his feet, both mentally and physically, proving to be a dextrous and agile adversary to anyone foolish enough to dismiss him as some sort of inane ring-leader.

Sazerac's business takes him all over Praach, from the more unsightly part of Upperward to the seediest belly of the Lanes and as such he has a network of contacts and connections. His smuggling operation has respectable influence in the more unsightly parts of the Seven-score Thousand Spires and works irregularly with the Thieves' Guild, though their relationship hasn't been always amicable.

[attr="class",DaudContentBodyGridPadding]
[attr="class",DaudContentBodyFontSize]
A weapon hand-forged from iron cold-wrought in testimony to a vengeful covenant. This weapon — imbued with eldritch power — takes on the ceremonial role of athamé in pagan practices. It's base form is that of a minimalistic, flawlessly geometric dagger of iron with a thin, unblemished section along the center of the blade, that reflects a bluish tint. Flanking the leather hilt is an ample crossguard along with a blunted pommel.
[break][break]
Daud's dominion over the weapon allows him to freely summon and discard into a vague extradimensional space. Its physical dimensions are free for him to manipulate at the instance of crossing over, allowing him to manifest it as a shortsword, a longsword or even a greatsword. Although admittedly, he favors the forms of a dagger or a bastard sword (hand-and-a-half sword).
