The beach was quiet, after everyone ran off to stop the supervillain or supervillaindog or whatever else was going on out there by now. Cory figured that whatever was happening in the city, the plot had probably changed at least six times in the last six minutes. She supposed superheroes had to be able to keep up with that sort of thing. That was probably just another reason why it was a good thing that she wasn't one, she'd have been stuck there going "But what about the first thing?" somewhat indignantly, while everyone else would be all "Oh my god, Cory, move on already!"
Except she would probably have some sort of super-alias or something to protect her identity, which was pretty ridiculous. She took one more look away from the ocean, towards the city where things were inevitably going down, then shook her head. "Nnnnnope." Nope. Not for her. Also, at Cory's maximum speed of either a light jog or hailing a taxi, things would have moved on before she even got over there anyway.
Besides, there was plenty of stuff to do here. 'Marine Biologist' might not have been the right sort of niche for this, as it ended up, but at least she knew basic scientific protocol. She dropped her regrettably empty Monster Energy into a recycling bin and made her way over to the remaining Government Based Normal People, starting up a conversation and offering her services and expertise to start scanning the beach area for radiation or leftover alien bug juice or whatever else ended up washed up on the beach on a day like this.
After all, just because a day didn't go the way you expected it to didn't mean it wasn't going to turn out well in the end.
