Nightmares were unfortunately becoming a regular fixture for Annabelle, with her body finally catching up on all the sleep it had missed and her mind finally starting to relax, all the close calls and near misses would come rushing back at night, leaving her tossing and turning until she eventually woke up on the floor in a cold sweat. They weren't so bad though, they were better than the constant paranoia, and fearful pulling back of curtains at night that she'd gotten used to, and hell, she'd abandoned a flat or two in her time because of bad dreams.
Tonight however, was a nasty one, one that spanned back many, many years, back to when...
Annabelle, wake up! It's just a nightmare!
She grunted in her sleep, fingers pulling at the sheets, as she continued to toss, kicking. No more! No! I'm tired! She could see it all, the lab, the white walls, that awful white gown that left her freezing cold... how had she escaped? Get off me! Where am I!? It's not real! You're going to lose control! She remembered something happened. She had... fallen? Where are my parents!? No, that wasn't right. She'd been fighting something... someone? I just want to go home, please! Stop! You're not ready for this! Fighting someone off, and she broke away, and ran for a wall, and turned into it, trying to slam her shoulder through it. And then... G..get... "OFF ME!"
She sat up with a start, tugging at the blankets that had tangle around her wrists and body, giving a panicked yelp as she looked around in a daze, suddenly wrenching herself away from the sheets. She gave one final light cry before she fell from the bed. It all came back to her, the hands grabbing her, trying to strap her into that awful chair again. They were tired of how much she fought, she just wanted to escape... and she had, by...
No, stop!
She looked to the floor, quickly throwing herself from the bed, as she turned her body into it, twisting into a spin to slam her shoulder into it. She waited for the loud thud of bone on wood, of her head bouncing from the carpet, for the pain to hit her, but...
vvvvvVVVVVWOMPH. Blinding light. Darkness, blinding light... spinning. Darkness.
She came spinning into the darkness, landing in a spinning heap on the ground, her blanket wrapping around her again as she fought it, tore at it and pulled until the fabric loudly tore and Annabelle finally pulled herself free. She crawled forward, gasping for air as she lay in... on? Something cold... slightly damp... wet carpet? Had she spilled her water? Was it... grass? What?
She coughed a little, lifting her head, her eyes barely able to adjust to where she was. It all felt wrong though... it was cold here, and she was just in her PJ's, one of Venus' oversized (for her) shirts, and some cotton pants. She swallowed, lowering her head into her hands, suddenly realising her head hurt, as in the worst headache she'd ever felt, and her body... tingled, like she'd just been shocked by an electric fence.
Oh... Annabelle. Just relax... that'll pass. I was afraid this would happen.
Jesus... H Christ, my head... what the hell happened?
I'm... not totally sure. This shouldn't have happened. You've definitely jumped a lot further than I feared you would.
Jumped?.. Oh .. God damn it. I'm in my PJ's...
Indeed you are. I don't know how this happened... I think you were pulled here? Like some kind of current?
So long as here is today, and isn't far from there. God.. DAMN it my head hurts.
Yep... it will for a bit. Travel through -that- isn't pleasant.
Well shit. She had no idea where she was... it was cold, and she was laying in a less than dignified heap. And she had school tomorrow.
