Right up till that point, Jacob hadn't even thought about what Elia's purpose- her goal might have been. But when she suddenly spoke about fighting devils, he stopped blinking, stopped breathing, almost. His heartbeat admittedly got faster for a moment there, before he allowed himself a moment to relax, taking a sip from his tea cup and repeating what she said in his head. If someone out there were getting attacked by a devil The words she used, if someone was getting attacked by a devil and NOT if they were the devil. He breathed a sigh of relief.
But Kore IS a devil. Or a half devil anyway. He thought to himself. Should I ask her about it? But that will definitely compromise my stance on it.
"Yeah I don't think I'll hold you if someone was getting attacked, devil or not." Jacob added, his tone clearly heavier from what it had been till a moment ago, and Elia could definitely notice the difference. It was an almost colder tone now, because he suddenly felt as though she somewhat of a threat even if she was clearly not in anyway acting as such.
But he quickly shook it off. If he suddenly started acting weird then she'd definitely ask questions, and smiled. Perhaps his only saving grace was that she'd closed her eyes. "I suppose it makes sense though, you are here by yourself gives you the freedom to move while still acting when necessary. Does your church equip you with money for expenses etc. then?" From her words, she sounded like an agent, almost. Perhaps she had a different name, but still it was the same thing in his opinion.
He wondered what went through her head, though, what she was thinking about. Were they fantasies of slaying the devil, or dreams of a future with someone? He took another sip of his tea, a long, audible sip, almost finishing the cup. "I think its important to have people you know outside of work but from the sound of it, it seems your life is also your job." Perhaps Elia would find his words offensive or perhaps hypocritic despite the kindness she'd shown Jacob, but the man had a tendency to be blunt about a lot of things in life. He cared about the people he loved, the friends he made and detested those who tended to get in his face. "But let me change that offering you a proposal of friendship Elia," His smile spread across his face as he pushed a hand forward across the table, palm facing up, for Elia to take if she so chose. "I may not be the best of influences though, I should warn you." He jested.
In truth, Jacob did like her a bit at this point though, because she'd seen the ugliest side of him in his opinion. Everything else, if she took it, was mild play in comparison.
