"That sounds..." Kore nodded with a smile, sitting back in her seat, "That sounds great, actually. Thank you. Long story short? Two years ago I-"
"You two ready for the check?"
Kore's eyes slowly drifted over to the waiter who'd stopped beside their booth, then back over to Silvaria.
"Uh... see if she wants something for dessert," the devil replied, gesturing towards Silvaria, "But, aside from that? Yeah, go ahead and bring the check."
"So, is that one check or two?"
"Just one. I got it."
Kore sighed, letting Silvaria get herself a treat if she so desired before diving into the unknown. She definitely deserved that. When the waiter had finally gotten her orders and disappeared deeper into the restaurant, the devil turned back to the witch and shrugged.
"Tell you what? Let's finish up here and go somewhere private to work. Once you've set up any runes that you need to for this, I'll fill you in on the situation."
And so, she did.
Kore would follow Silvaria to wherever the woman wanted to work and would let her get together whatever preparations she needed to properly study the instruments that couldn't be examined through scientific means, alone. She'd stand before the witch, call for her attention, and open a void orb just a little in front of and above herself; so as to not obstruct eye contact. The hunter would lift her right hand, palm turned upwards, and place it underneath the vantablack sphere. A moment later, something ominous would fall through.
An ornate silver dagger decorated with skeletal designs.
It levitated telekinetically over her hand; rotating ever-so-slowly to allow Silvaria to see all sides of it clearly. Shortly after, the witch would hear the sound of an angry cat growling. Though, try as she might, she wouldn't be able to locate it. But, she would hear it from... everywhere. Or, at least, she would hear the sound reverberating from every nearby shadow. Kore moved her hand to the side; the dagger continuing to float just over her palm as it moved.
"Just ignore that sound. He'll quiet down in a little while."
He?
We'll get to that soon, don't worry. In the meantime, Kore wasn't finished with her presentation. She brought up her left this time in a similar manner beneath the void orb. A locket fell out and hovered over her palm. Not quite as ominous as the dagger, but it too carried designs made to mirror human bones. Kore brought her left hand- along with the locket- to her other side and allowed the void orb to finally close. And as the two trinkets continued to slowly rotate over each palm, Kore began to explain.
"Dealing with you today reminded me of something. Roughly two years ago, when I still lived in Duskburg, I encountered another powerful magician. A necromancer by the name of Isabella Naicitrom. But, unlike you, she didn't take any issue with using her magic to harm others. In fact, she took great pleasure in it," slowly, as Kore spoke, Silvaria would notice the growls grow softer, less frequent, and less intense, "She took up residence in the largest graveyard in the city and started building an army right underneath our noses without anyone realizing. Then, one day, she leaves one of her monsters lying about topside. Looked kinda like a stature from what I was told. And, like with any oddity in the world, everyone who wasn't in a rush gathered around and gawked at it like it was the eighth wonder of the world. Exactly what she wanted."
She paused, sighed, and ran through the rest of the memory; her eyes drifting unattentively as she did.
"When the crowd had gotten big enough, the 'statue' woke up and started slaughtering people. I got there in time to save most, but a lot of people were gone by the time I arrived. So I fought the monster, and I killed it. Then, the necromancer sent a horde of recently dead zombies wearing familiar faces after me. I killed them too. And then I found her underground with her elite undead waiting at her side and heard her speech about how she would travel around the world and spread death everywhere she went."
She settled her sights back on Silvaria.
"I killed her, too. And, with her last breath, she told me to hold onto these. This dagger and this locket. So I did, if only to keep them out of the wrong hands. But, I'd still like to know what makes these so 'important'" She brought her hands forwards, slightly. Right about then, the growling went silent, "Oh good. The uh- the dagger? It's cursed. And I have no idea what exactly the curse it's carrying might be. Every time I get even remotely close to it, my cat has a hissy fit. No pun intended."
That probably brought a lot of questions to the forefront of Silvaria's mind, but Kore seemed to be in no rush to answer those; favoring the mystery surrounding these trinkets, instead.
"As for the locket? I'm not entirely sure if it's enchanted or not. My cat's got a knack for telling heinous magic from the rest. Part of the reason why he wasn't having a fit when I was in your monochrome world. So, if there is some enchantment on this, then it's not quite as bad as whatever the dagger is carrying. What's more concerning is that, well... I've taken this locket to every authority I could to try to figure out who this girl is and... no one seems to know. Isabella, herself, told me that all of her relatives are dead. And, maybe she's right. But, seeing how she's a necromancer? That may not have the same meaning that it usually does, heh. Figured you might be able to provide some answers on that end, as well."
Finally, she moved closer to Silvaria; slightly more comfortable bringing the trinkets closer to her now that she had at least some background information on them.
"Now, I'll help you identify these in any way that I can, but I'd like to ask that you avoid touching them if possible. I'm not going to pretend to have a deep understanding of magic- certainly not enough to even begin to compare to you on the topic- but I can tell you that my cat doesn't act that way for no reason. More importantly, while I'm able to protect myself from magic, I won't be able to do much to help you if you do end up... 'cursed' or something like it. So... just keep that in mind, okay?"
She sighed, and extended her hands towards Silvaria; bearing both items above her palms.
"So, how exactly do we do this? Do I just put these down somewhere or hold them close to you or..."
At that point, it was up to Silvaria to lead and find some answers. Despite her history with the stuff, Kore never developed much of an understanding for magic. And, quite frankly, she had almost no interest in learning arcana, either. After all...
She'd never met a wizard who wasn't more than a little strange.
