The spiny oakworm moth, with a wingspan between 40mm and 70mm (1.5in and 2.75 in), appears dangerous as a caterpillar with its spines, but is relatively harmless. However, the distinct orange color and contrasting white eye spots are enough to deter predators, and bring in onlookers.
Nii’s heart was hammering in his chest as he practically flew down the alleyway. He had no clue where he was going, just that he had to go. But even the deafening noise of blood pumping in his ears could not drown out the sickening sound of metal slicing through flesh and hitting stone. Nii was so caught up in his own head that he didn’t see the figure standing in the alley and slammed into her full force, sending both of them to the ground.
“Sorrysorrysorryohmygodi’msosorry.” Nii’s words came at a mile a minute, even as his brain was moving even faster, trying to figure out why this person looked so familiar. Then it clicked.
“Cricket.”
Immediately Nii began fumbling before shoving the paper in her hands, whispering to her as fast as he could, not even sure if she understood what he was saying.
“He’s dead, the moth’s dead, here’s what he wanted to get you, gotta go bye.”
It was at this point that he heard a somewhat familiar voice yelling for him, and he wasn’t sure if it was loud so he’d hear or if it was loud because it was angry. It called him a moron, so probably more on the angry side. Ah well, what’s the worst she could do, kill him? Oh right, she could do that. Yikes. All the same, Nii quickly scrambled up off the ground, and turned and started briskly down the alley, hoping to cut the voice off before it got to Cricket, so hopefully she could scramble.
“Hey! Hi! It’s me, right? I’m the moron, yeah? What’s up? You look familiar, have we met before?” Nii’s eyes were wide as he rambled on in front of Fury.
