Yurei Sight: The main ability that all Yurei-warashi receive is the ability to see and converse with spirits, as all Yurei-warashi are classified as spirits. This also extends to being able to reach out and calm vengeful spirits in order to discover what it would take to calm them.
Yurei Transformation: This is what distinguishes the Yurei-warashi from the normal members of the Oride family. Most Oride have some form of spirit sight, but only the Yurei-warashi have the capability to become a full spirit. This is due to the fact that they had descended from a human and a ghost. Once the Yurei-warashi's powers fully develop, they lose their physical body until they are capable of controlling the form change. As a true Yurei, they are able to pass through everything, and trying to move anything takes a good deal of concentration until they have the training. They are also naturally unable to be seen by normal sight unless they make themselves visible.
Ubume Scream:
Having descended from the Ubume's child, they inherited her heart-stopping scream. This can only be used while in Yurei form, and has no affect on the deaf, though the alteration in the Yurei form into a horrific sight would work as long as the victim had sight. One is not as effective without the other. While a young Yurei-warashi would not be able to use the scream to kill until they were older, the adolescent scream is still capable of scaring someone enough to cause them to black out.
Onryo Cleansing:
This is the ability of being able to lay to rest Onryo and Goryo, the vengeful spirits that commonly haunt the mortal realm, as well as the curses that they place on people and objects. They are able to break the curse on items, as well as use the items to lead to the Onryo that was responsible. It is a similar ability to an exorcism.[/ul]

While encountering an Ubume is rare, it is even more rare for the one to encounter her to be able to withstand the increased weight of the spirit's unborn child. The gift that the Onden family was given, beyond the child, was a signet ring. While it could have been sold for a small fortune, the new father of the Ghost Child decided to look into who the Ubume had been, and find the woman's grave. The woman had once been the daughter of a respected warlord hundreds of years ago, who was murdered in her bed. He traced her to her grave, and ensured that it was kept up. It wasn't until the Ghost Child was older and visiting his mother's grave, did he find the spirit of his biological father who was unable to pass on because he didn't know the fate of his wife. The child was able to tell him everything, which lead to the appeasement of the spirit... much to the relief of the inhabitants of the village and the descendants of the Warlord. That day he knew what his purpose was.. To appease the restless spirits of the world. And since then, the Yurei-warashi of the Oride helped people who had family members, or lived in houses that had angry or lost spirits. Many people with curses put upon them by angry spirits came to the family.
Kimiko started seeing spirits as a young child and was often found playing with Zashiki-warashi, which were the spirits of children that normally haunted a location but were drawn to the descendant of a Ubume. Her friends weren't imaginary, they were just dead and the young Yurei-warashi was fully aware of that. She played with her friends for a time, until their souls were at ease. They said their goodbyes, and the children disappeared. The young girl was sad, since her only friends had moved on. She understood, though, that they were with their families and that playing with them helped them do so. From then on, she wanted to help every spirit she saw, which got strange looks when people saw her talking to thin air. It was easily written off as the child talking to imaginary friends. As she got older, she learned what her duties were to be, and that what she would be dealing with would be worse than she could have ever imagined.
She had her first encounter with a Onryo Curse when she was in Junior high. One of the students had brought in a ring that had been taken from the yard of an abandoned house. It had been buried by the previous occupants, believing that it would be the end to the curse. They passed away, and a heavy rain had uncovered the shallowly buried item. Kimiko could tell, right away, that the ring was cursed. It gave off a nearly sickening smell, and aura. The maliciousness coming from it was strong, even though she wasn't a fully awakened Yurei-warashi. Of course, the young girl wouldn't give up her new treasure, and Kimiko didn't know how to persuade someone into giving her an item. Most of the time, the person was aware of the curse which would be why they came to the family. She couldn't just leave it, though, and by the time she would get home it could have been too late.
She followed the girl after school, hoping to at least be able to stop whatever misfortune the curse would bring. During that time, she tried to think of why the Onryo would curse a ring. She only got a glimpse of it, but the conclusion she came to was that it was a wedding ring, and that the spirit was betrayed by their spouse, possibly killed by them. Either way, it had to have been based around the marriage, which would have signified the curse of the ring. On the way home, the girl she followed had stopped by a small pond at a park. While peeking in, seeming to be seeing something, the girl had slipped and fallen into the pond. The end of the pond wasn't too deep, and Kimiko knew the girl could swim.. but the girl was struggling, trying to get to the surface but couldn't.
Drowning. The Onryo was drowned. the Yurei-warashi hurried over to the pond, dropping her bag and stepped in the water, grabbing onto the girl and pulled as hard as she could. The girl was able to get a breath, but was pulled again. Kimiko could feel something starting to wrap around her arms, almost like seaweed. The vengeful spirit was there, and it was powerful. Kimiko pulled and pulled, trying to get the girl out of the water while trying to talk to the spirit. It wasn't any good. She couldn't reach the spirit yet. That was when she felt herself suddenly pulled under the surface, inky vines wrapping around her. By that point, the girl had stopped moving and Kimiko couldn't hold her breath any longer. She could feel the water seeping into her lungs, and see the spirit hovering over her body.
As she started to lose consciousness, she felt arms around her and pull her out of the water. It was her father, who had been heading home from work when he had seen her bag just laying in the park and saw her just beneath the surface. The other girl, her classmate, didn't survive, and Kimiko's hair partially turned white from the ordeal. She spent some time in the hospital before being allowed to go home. She didn't talk to anyone for months after that, knowing that she was unable to save someone. She still doesn't talk much, and since the awakening of her Yurei form, spent most of her time invisible.[/ul]
