[break][break] In much the same way as we have our own 'inner voice', Alvis can bring his inner voice into the minds of others, essentially talking from inside their head. It is important to note that this is different from a hallucination; his voice is clearly different to any external sounds, and its source being something internal is evident even from the first word. His voice isn't heard, exactly- rather, it is experienced... and, for that reason, he makes a habit of letting people know what's going on when he talks. Having someone else's thoughts ring out through your mind can be a little off-putting at first, and Alvis doesn't like being off-putting. [break][break] The voice is pleasant, at least, sounding exactly as one would expect Alvis's 'real' voice to sound like, if he had one. This usually makes him seem a little less unsettling. [break][break] He can speak to one person individually, or to everyone within what would otherwise be hearing distance. If he has already established a connection with a person, however, the distance at which they can communicate increases dramatically; Alvis can talk to someone several blocks down, if the connection between them is particularly strong. [break][break] The Silent Voice is Alvis' main method of communication, as most people he comes across are not fluent in sign language.
[break][break] Alvis can implant thoughts and assumptions into people's minds, simply by willing it. [break][break] This sounds far more frightening than it is. The ability does not grant him absolute mind control or anything like that; it cannot force a person to think or act in a particular way. Instead, it acts more as another method of communication. Alvis implants an assumption in a person's mind, which they are free to dismiss as they wish. It does not force truth upon the assumption, nor does it force an opinion, but the thought does seem to come from within the person's mind, rather than from an external source. [break][break] Alvis always tells people he's doing this, though. Implanting thoughts in unknowing (or unwilling) people's minds, no matter how technically harmless, is far too morally grey for him to even consider. Though he does use this in therapy, he only does so with patient consent. A negative cycle of thoughts can be broken if new ones are introduced, he believes, but he isn't going to use his patients as guinea pigs on which to test this theory. [break][break] He does frequently use this in more harmless ways, however, like making a bus driver correctly assume where his stop is, so he doesn't have to explain to them why he can talk in their head.
[attr="class",AlvisTitle]The Beacon of Tranquility..
[break][break] Alvis carries with him a calming presence, and can strengthen this presence at will. [break][break] At its usual, passive level, the effects are only slight; those in his presence are unlikely (but not unable) to feel any extreme emotion, and are generally quite a bit more calm than they would be elsewhere. People tend to feel at-ease around him because of this, which (as you can imagine) is quite helpful, considering his line of work. He is aware that a passive aura of peace can cloud his patients' judgement sometimes, however, and he offers sessions over text if either he or the patient feel as though this is going to be an issue. [break][break] With focus, the aura can be strengthened to be far more noticeable. It feels numbing, at high strength- people have described feeling dull and almost completely emotionless when affected like this. Furthermore, if Alvis focuses it on a single person, then, as long as he's not met with enough resistance, he can put them to sleep. Needless to say, he doesn't do this unless absolutley necessary. The passive aura is usually more than enough. [break][break] This aura is not mind control, per se; it doesn't affect an individual's free will or rational thought, only how they feel in his presence. It can't change the intention of someone trying to kill him, for example, unless that intention consisted primarily (or entirely) of in-the-moment emotion. On top of this, the effects can be overcome, with enough concentration, though the concentration would have to be constant, as it's very easy to slip back under its influence.
[break][break] To Alvis, the human mind is like a series of locked cabinets. If someone hands him the keys to one of these cabinets, he can look at the thoughts and memories within. [break][break] This ability requires explicit and constant consent for it to work- and not just for ethical reasons. Alvis is completely unable to read people's minds unless he is able to guide them through this visualisation, and they continuously give him access. The observation can only be made for as long as the person allows him to look; as soon as they shut the cabinet, Alvis is no longer able to view its contents. [break][break] Strangely enough, this ability doesn't work all that well for people with particularly abnormal minds or spirits. Aliens, gods, eldritch horrors, and other things of that nature have a different sort of 'code' in their minds that Alvis is unable to parse. In many cases, trying to decipher what these memories mean gives him a nosebleed and a headache, and produces a high-pitched whine in the back of the being's mind that grows in volume until they shut him out. [break][break] Perhaps due to this ability, or perhaps due to the psychic nature of all of his abilities, Alvis is almost completely resistant to all kinds of psychic influence. The cabinets in his own mind are firmly shut, and anything that tries to access or change them will react the same way as Alvis does when he's unable to parse an entity's mind- they will receive a splitting headache and an unexplained nosebleed, and Alvis will hear that high-pitched whine until they stop.

[break][break] Name: Dr. Alvis Holt. [break] Age: ?? [break] Gender: Male. [break] Nationality: Danish/British. [break] Occupation: Psychiatric therapist. [break][break] Alvis is a licensed therapist who runs the Hope's Garden therapy centre in Burlington, Vermont. He is a kind and peaceful man, determined to use his abilities to help those around him and better the world in whatever way he can, namely by offering specialised therapy and psychiatric help to those affected by metahumans and the state of the world around them. As a metahuman himself, he offers a particular kind of understanding to these plights, and is able to help in ways that someone without his gifts would find impossible. [break][break] Though he is physically mute, he is able to communicate to others through these gifts, 'speaking' as a silent voice in their heads, though he is also fluent in American, British, and Danish sign language as well. No matter how he speaks, Alvis usually comes across the same to everyone; a polite, soft-spoken individual, with a calm disposition and overall good intentions, even if he is a little secretive sometimes. [break][break] Alvis is a very private man. Though his job is to help others confront their demons, it is often speculated that he has demons of his own that he has long since neglected.

i genuinely hate how sometimes, for no fucking reason whatsoever, spoilers will just turn into that stupid fucking SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW thing
like... alvis sheet relies on spoilers actually displaying the text i put in the spoiler in order to have that hover effect thing which is kinda important and i just.... ghhhhhgghg i can make *links* default to transparent text so at least theres not a huge purple S over the buttons but having it be transparent and not actually hoverable is really annoying :(
the M and C album covers have really clean designs, i wanna do something with 1) the notch things cut out of the bottom of the border and 2) the line of 4 squares followed by text

[attr="style","grid-area:CC;outline:1px solid #aaaaaa;outline-offset:6px;padding:2%;background-color:rgba(0,0,0,0.7);position:relative;z-index:69"]There are some places that you really shouldn't go. [break][break] The reputation of The Gallows undoubtedly precedes it; ask anyone local to the area, and they'll tell you it's somewhere you want to stay far away from, a wretched hive of scum and villainy, if ever there was one. Its patrons are cruel and violent, and its staff even more so. It's a place for the lowest of the low to gather, for black-market deals and plots of violence- in short, a villain bar. Hardly the best place to visit on a wild night out, unless you fancy ending that night on the handle (or business end) of a knife. [break][break] The bouncers are pretty strict, as they have to be. It's hard for your average Joe to get a table, but your average devil will have no trouble at all. Truth be told, it's a miracle how this place hasn't got shut down yet, but that might have something to do with management being quite hostile towards anyone trying to put an end to their business. Seven is quite rich, mostly from favours given by the patrons. He can afford good lawyers, if the threat is coming from legal grounds- and can easily defend himself and his property if the threat is of a more violent nature. Still, it helps to be careful. Whilst it would be a little on-the-nose to put a "No Do-Gooders Allowed!" sign on the front door, the message is pretty clear. [break][break] You may be surprised to hear that, once inside the bar, the service is actually quite good. The menu is reasonably priced, the quality of the drinks is outstanding, and the place is always unnervingly clean. For a bar specifically tailored to the most despicable people in society, it certainly appears to be a bit too pleasant for its own good. Most bar staff will have you know that the quality of the place is due to certain customers (who they do not want to cross) are quite discerning when it comes to their haunts, but most regulars will tell you it's because Seven forces people to clean up their mess on pain of death. Make of that what you will. [break][break] As for house rules, there aren't many. Patrons must go outside to smoke, can't threaten any of the staff, and must always find a way to clear up any mess (or pay for any damages) before they leave. Seven is very strict about enforcing that last one, by the way. It doesn't matter who does it, as long as it's not him. Any broken glass that still remains by the time the culprit leaves the bar will find itself lodged in their neck. Aside from that, however, The Gallows is incredibly relaxed. People can fight, make sketchy deals, organise whatever heinous acts of violence they wish, and nobody will bat an eye as long as it doesn't attract any unwanted attention from outside.
[attr="style","display:grid;grid-template-columns:12px auto 12px;grid-template-rows:12px auto 12px;grid-template-areas:'TL TC TR' 'CL CC CR' 'BL BC BR';padding-top:1%"]
[attr="style","grid-area:CC;outline:1px solid #aaaaaa;outline-offset:6px;padding:2%;background-color:rgba(0,0,0,0.7);position:relative;z-index:69"]Very little is known about the man who calls himself Seven. [break][break] He is the founder and owner of The Gallows and frequently works nights as a bartender, keeping a masked yet watchful eye on the state of things. Though he is a man of very few words, it's pretty easy to tell what he wants to communicate without him having to say anything: a point to the menu will tell you how much to pay, and a hard stare will tell you to knock that shit off. Seven is patient, thankfully, and, when he does speak, he is quite brief and polite. [break][break] Still, those who break the rules or cause a little too much trouble can find themselves on the receiving end of his wrath. Reports are mixed about what exactly Seven can do. Some say he has control over flesh and bone, some say he's able to control shards of glass, and some (correctly) say that he's a very proficient telekinetic. Indeed, whilst many telekinetics are limited to manipulating inanimate objects, such limitations do not apply to Seven. It seems as though he can break a man's bone simply by willing it, and he's certainly not afraid to do so. [break][break] His origins are as mysterious as his identity, although there is one prevailing rumour. Seven is said to be a member of The Nine: a group of artificially-created metahumans, created to be the next step in human evolution. Of course, he has not confirmed or denied this. He rarely has time for chatter, and he's not going to waste his precious few words on such speculation.
{OOC notes}Might make this prettier at some point. [break][break] Villain bar! Come hang out here or whatever. Most of the bar staff are NPCs (except Seven, but he hardly talks so you can write getting a drink from him in silence if you want). Maybe don't come here if your intention is to shut it down just yet, probably best to establish this place first.
