BRIEFING
With the decisive victory in the Epsilon-Centauri system, UNSC fleets successfully dislodge Covenant warships from the planetary capital of Rho. As the pursuit of the UNSC warships commenced to mop up the remaining Covenant ships, ONI Section 3's Epsilon-Kilo was alerted to a single ORA-class Interdictor Cruiser flagged as the "Tranquility of Resolution." Epsilon-Kilo assigned the ship as subject-of-interest "Whiskey-Romeo" linking it to numerous outer colony civilian ship ambushes and reported to have stalked ONI intelligence-gathering elements. A hasty force was assembled, headed under Captain John Morrison, commanding officer of the Autumn-class heavy frigate "Cleopatra's Command" along with 3 other auxiliary support ships. Epsilon-Kilo also requisitioned Special Warfare Group SIX and its commanding officer, Colonel Wilson Huah. In addition to this, Epsilon-Kilo project chief Lars Oskarsson required the deployment of a SPARTAN team as vanguard forces, should they encounter stiffer resistance. Spartan Operations command approved of this and deployed Ahile-107, a SPARTAN-II soldier with SPARTAN-III soldiers from Gamma Company to form "SPIDER Team."
The strike force, labeled under UNSC command as Strike Force Trident shadowed target Whiskey-Romeo as it diverted its course for uncharted slipspace towards the Pegasus arm. Strike Force Trident gave chase to Whiskey-Romeo as it did not regroup with the rest of the Covenant fleet and remained on its unexpected course. Strike Force Trident soon became out-of-range for the rest of the fleet's communication devices, leaving it isolated in unknown space. At the behest of Lars Oskarsson, Strike Force Trident continued its pursuit of Whiskey-Romeo to space sector XY-4408 - nicknamed "Alamo Sector." Cleopatra Command's geological scanners and satellite imaging located Whiskey-Romeo landed. The planet landed on was unknown, with no known past efforts to survey it, much less colonize it. It was a Gaia-world, but a considerable size smaller than Earth. Lars Oskarsson, along with James Morrison ignored Wilson's protests for re-establishing contact with the rest of the fleet and deemed it necessary to land a striking force.
ELEMENTS IN PLAY
Epsilon-Kilo
An ONI Section 3 field team responsible for counter-intelligence, tracking subjects-of-interest, and direct action should it be deemed necessary. Headed by Lieutenant-Commander Lars Oskarsson.
Special Warfare Group SIX
A Special Warfare group under the United Special Warfare Command, made of conventional SOF units, and SOF-capable aerial units. Headed by Colonel Wilson Huah.
Strike Force Trident
Made out of detached warships from the Epsilon-Centauri fleet, as per request of ONI's Section 3. Made up of the Autumn-heavy class frigate, Cleopatra Command, as its flagship, and 2 other destroyers. Headed by Captain James Morrison.
SPIDER Team
A fireteam-sized Spartan element, loaned out by Spartan Operations command as the main vanguard for the task force. Made out of a single Spartan-II soldier, and Spartan-III pullouts from what's left of Gamma Company. Headed by Chief Warrant Officer Ahile-107.
PLOT:
Four figures stood around the dimly-lit bridge, as they studied the holographic projections of the Cleopatra's geological survey reports. They focused on one single image, the overhead image of their target - the warship. The ONI operative first spoke up, "Target Whiskey-Romeo, that's it. Satellite imaging has noted that it seems that it's in the middle of excavating something. As far as we know, it could be a Forerunner artifact and we can't let that happen." The warship was beside a non-natural structure, similar to past Forerunner constructs, positioned over one of the planet's mountains. The ONI operative tapped the table, emphasizing the landed ship "We just need to deploy our ground troops and recover what they're excavating." Wilson grunted, "No chance in hell I'm risking that, we 'oughta link back up to the fleet and consolidate." The ONI operative locked eyes with the colonel, "With all due respect colonel, this isn't open to suggestions," the spook replied in a flat tone but the subtext was biting. "We move fast, and we strike hard - we'll deprive the Covvies a chance to dig in," he added in as he gestured towards the holographs. "Or, shit goes sideways and we'll end up with a military disaster," the colonel answered back and glanced at the Spartan team leader, "Just because we got Spartans ain't mean they're immortal." "Yet they're our best asset, colonel," James would speak up inclining his head towards the officer, "I agree with the lieutenant-commander here." To which Wilson would huff, as he gestured with his chin towards the captain, "Make sure this ends well, Sixth group will deploy." The captain would look over to his silent companion, the Spartan-II stood with his arms crossed staring at the projections. "Is SPIDER Team ready?" the captain asked, to which the tall figure would merely nod.
"Just say when."
