The legacy of Zyx, the Night Harvester is known worldwide, hailing from distant lands, enveloping all in umbral darkness as he hunts for those worthy to be reaped. Much of his work has been vilified from cultures across the whole world, labeling him as the father of Chaos, an evil with no emotion, and the Great Invader. His domain rumored to be in Venutia, a land where the the sun is often missed and where the night rules true. Here, a Matriarch kingdom founded by Early explorers and adventuring nobles; a Noblewoman named Maia led the group, building up the city which now stands the kingdom of Ivera. There, she served as the prime intermediator between Humans and the Venu, resolving conflicts, wherever they arose and encouraging cooperation as one. Her efforts brought forth admiration from all who contributed, and through popular vote, they announced their Queen to rule the land.
As time progressed, so did too the influence of Ivera; reaching deeper into Venutia's land to see what further new discoveries lie ahead. Their efforts led the kingdom to cross paths with Zyx, who did not take kindly to the invasion of his lands, slaughtering those who dare tread in his woods. Commander Hestus, the Queen's personal guard and one of the most renowned defenders ventured forth to investigate of the missing parties, but found himself to be a vessel for Zyx. Overcome with much worry of her dear one, the Queen had personally met with the Night Father and through insurmountable odds, returned to her kingdom with Hestus beside her.
From then, the people of Ivera and neighboring towns were called, where the Queen announced of the deal, and what the barter entailed. The people neither villainize Zyx, nor turned their back on the Queen; the nation would bear the burden.
The age-old story had been preserved by story, then eventually myth, disappearing from the fact of it's history. The legend of such stories had only been brought forth to light once more by a Noblewoman named Mara Eiver from the nation of Verdun. Within a discreet meeting, Maia's story was once more revealed to a small group, wishing to fulfill the deal that had been struck with the Night Father so long ago. The Matriarch Queen of Ivera, Elvia VanSickle had been invited by Princess of Verdun and best friend, Freya Emloy. Here, she revealed of her discovery; a man who like Elvia, bears the sigil of Zyx. Axil Gester, a mercenary and traveller had crossed paths with her in the port town of Gam, the nearest known settlement that borders the vast ocean between the grand continent of Anfium and Venutia. Here, the small assembly had forged a fellowship bound by contract; Under such oaths, Axil now lives as a Royal Guard under the banner of Ivera.
The small group consisting of Queen Elvia, her trusted Captain of the guards, Nivis, and Axil had to measure their strength as a group before venturing forth their grand Odyssey. Underneath the mountain where the grand castle of Ivera stands holds within it a city of Dwarves and Elves, where they are kept hidden to from the known world. Here Axil and Nivis meet Whisper, an Assassin whom is a good friend to Elvia.
The group had just concluded in a quick display of capability over range for the evening, with Elvia asking Axil to follow her for a small private conversation. Their exchange of words led them to a terrace, overseeing the vast space within the mountain, where the walls were filled with much buildings and with more lights, like a night sky twinkling bright. She asked of Axil (only known as 'Hunter' for the time being) of his opinions of Ivera, as he spent the earlier parts of the day exploring it.
.....
Axil was flattered at her playful critique, managing to smear a smirk as both watched Nivis take to position to demonstrate his abilities.
"That was merely a fun little trick, if you were wondering. Something I've practiced to stay motivated in archery back when I was training, many years ago." He replied to her comment as their third member took the first shot. Elvia uttered something under her breath as Nivis let the first arrow fly to it's targe, Axil thought it was of personal matter, so he kept his lips sealed. After taking his rounds, Whisper gathered them again to discuss further plans for the near future. Axil was excused from any practice, which was unsurprising, though he doubted he would need to be at range with both of proficient enough for real combat. With nothing else needed of the group, they were dismissed, with Elvia leading the way through the twisting pathways; as to where, Axil would leave his trust in the Queen.
Out of the blue, as they walked, Elvia gestured Nivis away for now, asking to speak with him for a moment. She made her way to nearby cliffside, leaning on a stone railing, observing the unique sight that which was the city within Ivera's mountain. The distant clanging of hammer and anvil, the white noise of chatter echoing off the dark walls surrounding them. It was still hard for Axil to fathom just how even for a traveller like him, believing he's seen it all, this was a first. Silence followed but was cut short as she began to ask a question.
"How have you enjoyed your day in the city of Ivera?"
Axil took a moment to think before responding; believing there was a sort of catch or test to this question.
"Well... it certainly is a city like no other. There's new food I've tasted not offered in any nation that Anfium holds, and much more inventions that would astonish engineers and inventors across the ocean. The culture here is different too, welcoming of strangers from distant lands. I haven't seen any malicious activity from the shadows of streets, so either most citizens are happy or you have some vigilant guards. The people greet you as if friends, and I can see why much pilgrims decide to stay and establish their homes here. It is quite peaceful, it feels as if I were walking the streets of a home I never knew of." Axil replied, fondly remembering just how enlightening it was to roam the streets.
" 'The reflection of a ruler is mirrored by it's people.' or so they say. If such proverbs are true, then you have been ruling so well even fools can understand." Axil continued on, a small smile crossing his lips; in his mind, Axil was admiring her strength in presence alone. To rule so well at such a youthful age, and with much wisdom was near myth of existing.
