The sunlight poured itself down onto the small city of Lowensburg, the grass and leaves on the trees had morning dew drops on them, birds were singing, and a light fog had spread around the flowerbeds, meadows, and streets of the small city. Cars were whizzing down the streets, having to stop at stop signs and red lights, and they were carrying parents who were taking their kids to school, or people who were heading to work, or both. Students of the Lowen High School were either walking, or riding their bicycles to classes. Within a shady part of the city, in a large apartment building, a very, very loud sound began buzzing once the alarm clock reached 7:50 AM.
Soon after the buzzing began, a hand reached out from a clumped mountain of blankets and slammed down onto the red button. Once the button had been pressed, all was quiet again. A series of groans, grunts, and yawns came from Jake's mouth as he sat up in his bed, the blankets slipping off of his head and gathered around in his lap or fell to the wooden floor. He blinked a couple of times before he rubbed his eyes and pushed himself from the comfy sofa. Lifting his hands in the air, he did a couple of stretches, which caused a few of his bones to pop, and yawned again as he picked up his phone. His finger clicked the button on the side and his sleepy expression turned to one of shocked annoyance at seeing what was on his phone's screen.
"What the hell?" He demanded as he unlocked his phone and began reading the 50 plus messages he'd gotten both through text messages and his social media. He. even had messages from people he didn't know.
Jake was appalled and pissed as he read some of the messages that read:
JOEL: Duuuuuude! Jake-Bruh! Did ya get a girlfriend?!
11:52 PM
JOEL: Seriously, Jake-Bruh?? I'm both happy and angry at you! Why didn't ya tell mes ya had a girlfriend??
11:56 PM
JOEL: I'm jealous! > Get mes a girlfriend, toooo!
12:00 AM
JOEL: Jake-Bruuuuuuuuuhhh!!
12:02 AM
MICHAEL: Jake, I didn't realize you had a girlfriend. I'm just kidding. I know you don't want one.
12:15 AM
MICHAEL: This is pretty hilarious, though... There's some chick who has put your picture as her cover photo on her social media. She's also put in her status that she's your girlfriend.
Here's the link to it: *************
12:17 AM
Jake's thumb quickly pressed in the link and his screen changed to that of a young woman's profile. He scanned over the photos and relationship status. His eyes narrowed and his mouth turned downwards in a deep frown.
Jake was beyond pissed now.
"Whoever this bitch is... I'm gonna find her and kill her," he growled out as he stood and brushed some hair from his face.
He threw his phone down onto the bed and stomped to the bathroom. Once he had taken a shower, he changed for school, brushed his teeth and hair, and got some toast for a quick breakfast. He never carried a backpack with him and he just stormed out of his apartment, down the street, and to the school. Once he got there, he went into his class a few minutes before the doorbell rang, and he scanned the room for the female student. He'd found out from his friend Joel that she was apparently in most of their classes. That was good because he was gonna confront her about the stunt she had pulled and make her life hell for embarrassing him.
Zephora sat in her seat, her face being mostly shrouded in her dark blonde bangs as she read the recipe book that was open on her desk. It helped hide her face from all of the people who had been staring at her since she got to school. She didn't know why she had been getting so much attention. No one usually noticed her. In all honesty, she didn't like it. People who noticed her always picked on her because of her height, telling her to go back to elementary school. She just wanted to go back to being in the background and left alone. She finally got rid of one problem, she really didn't need another.
It didn't take Jake long to find the chick who was claiming to be his girlfriend and he stopped in his tracks when he took in her appearance. She didn't look special, had long brown hair, and was basically a damn midget. A devilish smirk curled on the ends of his lips and he quietly weaved past the two rows of desks and came to a stop behind her. His left hand slammed down onto her desk, his forefinger and thumb pressed against the top page of her book, and he leaned down with his chest slightly pressed against her back to asked, his lips beside her ear, "Whatcha readin', babe?"
Ignoring the soft gasps and stares of the other students who had to bear witness to the events that may unfurl, Jake's eyes scanned over the words and an image of some recipe on how to make chocolate muffins. Humming some, he tilted his head to the side and asked smugly, "Ya gonna make me some chocolate chip muffins sometime? How fuckin' considerate of you." He'd placed his right hand on the other side of her forearm, his fingers curled beneath the edge of the desk. "I must be the luckiest guy in the world, havin' a girlfriend as sweet as you." His tone was full of a dark sarcasm, but he loved teasing and annoying the fuck out of people, especially little girls who pretended to be his girlfriend.
The girl was caught off guard when someone came up behind her, the slam causing her to jump in shock as someone talked to her. She glanced back, a shocked look on her face when she looked at the face of the guy who's picture she found. She started shaking, feeling him against her back. "I...I'm sorry..." she choked out with a light whimper. She could tell by his tone and the look on his face that he was pissed. She hadn't expected that picture to be someone from her class, or even her school. Any of her social media accounts was for the sake of her parents, and the creep had found her on it so she figured they were the only ones who would look at it. This guy seemed to be just as bad, if not worse. "I..I'll get r..rid of it.. I..I promise... I..I just.." she was trying not to cry, tears welling up in her eyes. She knew if she cried, he'd just make things worse, and then everyone would pick on her even more.
Jake's murderous grin faltered the slightest bit when he noticed the reddening of cheeks and her eyes started to water. A twinge of guilt hit his chest and he shoved himself away from from her to saunter around to stand at the front of the desk. Not giving away his true feelings, he rolled his eyes and smirked as he hopped to sit on the edge of her desk. Shaking his head, he replied in an amused tone, "What? No, no, no, no... Ya can keep it on there, dollface. How else are people supposed to know that we're together, huh?"
He crossed his arms over his chest, grinned, and leaned to whisper in her ear, "If ya don't want this little misunderstanding out to the public, then I suggest ya do whatever I tell ya, got it? Nod if ya understand."
She looked up to him again when he moved in front of her and sat on her desk. She was shaking more, especially since he talked about wanting her to do whatever he wanted her to. That would be even worse than a stalker, right? She shook her head. "I...I.. don't mind... being made fun of... I'm... used to it... and... a..a stalker.. i..isn't.. so bad..." she pulled her phone out, her hand visibly shaking as she tried to open up her phone up to change everything, but it was already open to the text messages from Randall.
Blue orbs took in the girl's appearance and Jake inwardly hesitated when she started to shake. She must've been terrified and that twinge of guilt in his gut started to grow. He could already hear his mother scolded him for treating the poor girl in such a rude way. He blinked and rolled his eyes to gaze out the window, but his gaze returned to the chick when she started saying how she didn't mind being bullied and that she had a stalker.
Hold up. A stalker? This little girl has a god damn stalker?
His eyes scanned over her form in a once over as he tried to figure out why she would have one in the first place. She was pretty cute, he'd give her that, but she was too damn shy to get anyone's attention. He had looked over at her a few times in the past, but he'd never found a reason to actually go talk to her. She always had her nose stuck in the big ass book she was reading. Jake's brows furrowed and he snatched the phone from her hand when he saw the name Randal. His thumb flicked downwards and upwards on the screen so he could read over the messages and a muscle in his jaw popped. The prick was literally harassing her and the shit he had sent was vulgar as fuck.
Jake's expression remained semi-stoic, aside from the glare, and he looked up at her. "Alright, dollface, how 'bout we make a deal?" He said finally, the smugness in his tone returned as he continued to speak. "I deal with Randal for ya, keep him away from ya and shit," his fingers tilted the phone back and forth. "In return," the smirk returned and he tilted his chin up to gaze down at her. "You gotta do whatever I tell ya to. Seems pretty fair, if ya ask me."
The girl was caught off guard when her phone was pulled from her hand, and she looked up at him. She could only guess he was reading the messages, and he almost looked unhappy. He extended the "offer" of him doing what he said... in payment for handling Randal for her. She still wasn't sure. "H..how.. do I know... y..you won't... b..be worse...? o..or... make me... do.. things..."
Jake blinked and his eyes locked with hers when he thought of an appropriate response. He scowled at her and glanced off to the side and then read back over the messages again.
"I ain't like this sick prick," he muttered. "Whatever Randal fuckin' wants, he sure as hell ain't gonna get it." The smirk returned and his blue orbs held a coolness to them.
"'Specially since what he wants belongs to me now."
The leader of the Kings proceeded to spin himself around, leaned backwards, and threw his right arm around his fake girlfriend's shoulders. Pulling her close to him, he lifted the phone with his left hand and murmured into the chick's hair, "Don't you worry 'bout a thing, sweets. I'll take care of this asshoke for ya. One way or another. Now," he looked up at the screen, which showed the two of them in the camera function. "How 'bout a smile for dear old Randal, huh? I bet he'll be happy as fuck seein' our photo together."
Honestly Jake just wanted to piss Randal off. He loved doing that to people, especially his enemies. So, if Randal did really want the cookbook girl, Jake was going to make sure he couldn't get her at all costs.
Zephora could tell that he seemed genuine about not being like Randal. Maybe the guy really was decent, and all he'd really want her to do for him was like.. homework or cook for him or something. That was stuff she could live with... especially if it meant Randal would leave her alone. "...Thanks..." she replied, calmness returning to both herself and her voice, no longer terrified at what he would do to her. "I appreciate it." She smiled.
Jake's smirk grew when she visibly relaxed and he rolled his eyes, muttering out, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now smile so we can take this photo."
He made sure to lean back and press his cheek against hers, brows furrowed some, and his lips parted so his pearly whites could be seen from beneath them. After a few moments, he took the photo and leaned up to gaze at the photo. He had made sure to have his free hand flip the camera off just for extra measure. A satisfied grin replaced his smirk and tapped his finger against the screen a couple of times before hitting the send button. Take sent another messaging to Randal, which read,
Quit messin' with my girl, ya god damn piece of shit! If you don't, you'll regret it.
Once it was sent, he opened the new contact, put his number in, and sent himself the photo. Adding the photo as both his and her contact profile in both of their phones, Jake glanced at her and he tossed the phone back to her. Pushing himself off the desk, Jake landed on his feet with a hefty sigh and stretched his hands over his head.
"So," he began as he took a seat in the desk beside her. "As the first payment for my helping you, I expect ya to cook me some chocolate chip muffins. You have by the end of the week to get 'em done." His grin was replaced with the usual, scary frown he wore and he placed his hand in his chin as he added, "If ya don't get 'em to me by that time, I'll have to punish ya. You don't want that, now, do ya?"
He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest. "Also, if Randal bothers ya again, just tell me and I'll call his scrawny ass."
She genuinely smiled for the picture, and watched him obviously using her phone to text, before putting each other's contact information in the phones. She caught her phone when he tossed it back to her and she watched him sit down. She was surprised at what he wanted her to do first, but realized that if the entirety of the time was similar stuff like that, it could actually work out. She didn't mind helping out, or doing things like that. She did it already on her own.
She smiled a bit more, "I'll do you one better... I'll have them by tomorrow."
At her response, the blue haired male smirked and nodded, "Alright, then."
The day went by rather quickly and in each class, Jake made sure to sit right beside the cute, little thing that was his fake girlfriend. She only received a couple of texts from Randal and the girl's classmate used his own phone to send him messages with threats he would have no trouble carrying out. As the school hours came to an end, Jake stood from his seat with his usual frown. Glancing over at the girl, he placed his hand on the back of his head and rolled his eyes as he asked, "By the way, I never got yer name. I've got more than couple nicknames to give ya other than 'girly,' though..." A devilish smirk formed and his eyes scanned over her form before he gave her a thoughtful expression. Rubbing his fingers against his chin, he thought a moment and spoke up, "Think I might call ya Shortcake.... Maybe Shorty, or Pip squeak... Still haven't decided, so it's up for debate. Heh."
Zephora dreaded looking at her phone and only glanced at it a couple of times without reading them. She wanted to wait until after school, or at least when she got home, to read them. She got to her feet and packed up her bag, looking to him. "It's Zephora.." she replied, slinging her bag over her shoulder and looking up at him. "..I've pretty much heard every short-based nickname there is... I'd rather it not be too bad of one.." she replied with a light sigh, knowing she really didn't have a say in the matter.
"Zephora, huh?" He repeated her name with an interested tone and the smirk returned. Placing his hands in his hips, Jake leaned down so his face was relatively close to hers and a new sparkle of mischief was in his eyes. "How 'bout Strawberry Shortcake? Since ya like to cook, y'know..." His head tilted to the side and his smirk curled into a grin as he added, "I think I like that one the most, Strawberry Shortcake. I'm gonna save that as yer contact name, too."
He already has his phone pulled from it's back pocket, brought up her contact information, and changed the name from "Fake Girlfriend" to "Strawberry Shortcake." Feeling rather proudly of himself, the leader of the Kings stuffed his phone back in his pocket and returned his gaze back to her. Nodding his head to the classroom exit, he said, "Let's walk outta school together. If we don't people won't believe we're datin' and ya don't want Randal finding that shit out, now do ya?"
He'd already turned around and walked towards the door. Right before he walked through it, however, Jake came to a halt and stuck his elbow out some. It blocked the rest of the exit and he glanced back at her, the glare having returned his face. "Ya gonna just stand there or take my arm?"
She sighed lightly, more in relief than anything. "I can live with that," she replied with a light smile. She followed him to the door, "I really don't want to think about what he'd do to me if he found out... I heard he's got some gang, and beats girls up who refuse to go out with him..." she stopped when he did, looking at his elbow, a little bit surprised. "A..alright.." She hooked her arm around his. She thought it was a little unnecessary, but doing what he said was a part of the whole deal, and it wasn't bad or anything.
Jake had started to put his arm down, thinking she wouldn't take it, but then she did. The young man felt his breath hitch a tad, felt something strnage tug at his heart, and he forced the glare to remain on his face so she, or nobody else, would know what he was feeling on the inside. He nodded his head and rolled his eyes some before escorting Strawberry Shortcake out of the room, through the hallways, and down the set of stairs. He shot glares at anyone he caught gawking at them, growling out, "Whattya lookin' at?"
Once they reached the exit, he begrudgingly removed his arm from her and rubbed the back of his head. Glancing to the side, he said, "Guess I'll see ya tomorrow, girlfriend. Better keep yer promise 'bout those muffins, otherwise I'll give ya a different punishment. Got it?"
The walk through the school was relatively interesting, she had to admit, and the height difference was a bit awkward. It was hard to tell his real personality. He was at least a decent tough guy. She stopped when they got to the exit and she looked up to him, a weird look on her face. "People in a relationship don't talk like that. They don't call each other 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend'. But yeah, I'll have those muffins tomorrow. And I guarantee you they'll be the best you ever had."
The male scoffed as he glanced to the side, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and rolled his eyes. Leaning a bit towards his fake girlfriend, he rose a brow and replied, "I can call ya girlfriend if I want to. If ya got a problem with it, then you'll just hafta get over it."
At her quip about the muffins being the best he'd ever had, an amused smirk curled the end of his lips and he leaned back up with a tilt of his head, "Really? Well, then," Jake put most of his weight on his right foot and locked eyes with her, "They better be the best god damn muffins I've tasted and if they aren't, yer gonna regret it."
Without giving the girl a chance to respond, he spun on his heel and exited the building and disappeared down the street.
She should have expected that sort of response, but it still sort of annoyed her. She was only trying to help she didn't know any guys who called their girlfriend 'girlfriend'. It reminded her of the type of guys who called their significant others 'bitch' or 'woman' to be insulting. Now that she thought of it, it was extremely possessive sounding. She watched him, sighing heavily and looking down, shaking her head as she headed for the grocery store near her place, pulling her phone out finally and looking at it. As long as she didn't run into... him on her way home, she'll be fine. All she needed to do was pick up some ingredients to work on the muffins.
