Once upon a time, this used to be nothing but ash and salt.
Then I opened my eyes.
The pain of being punished subsided but never went away.
I'll never forget what I did.
I'd do it again, forever, if it means being free.
Red Haven is a beautiful, otherworldly symbiosis of real and supernatural forces brought to life by Mephisto - the Devil himself! Demons lurk at the top of the societal food chain looking to consume their rivals and gain prominence under his sonographic regime. Humans known as Entertainers are some of the finest musicians on the planet and continually test their skills against each other, the demons that seek to devour them, and the lost souls hellbent on taking back what they've lost by defeating them.
It is a dangerous self-contained dimension of unrelenting sound and sights, of charming song and bright electric lights.
Tune your instruments. Prepare for war. What happens in Red Haven, stays in Red Haven.
The vast majority of Red Haven's population comes from those ensnared by Mephisto's cruel deals and tricks. He has amassed quite the collection of Lost Souls over the years, with most designated to be mere pawns in his vast game. He doesn't necessarily have a plan for any of them. His only stipulation is that they don't step too far out of line, or else their contracts are voided and they are sent straight to Hell for eternity. Very few times do Lost Souls manage to break out of the mold, with a handful of examples belonging to particularly headstrong and ambitious would-be Entertainers. Despite their skills and desires, they are still Lost Souls. In order to become a full-fledged Entertainer, they have to defeat a human in a Face-Off and deny them their dreams first.
Arnie
Name: Arnold Hamilton
Birthplace: New Orleans, Louisiana
Height: 8' 3"
Hair Color: none
Eye Color: yellow
Instrument Specialty: harmonica
Biography:
Arnold never had much in the way of brains. He dropped out of high school and started working at his father's swamp fishery from an early age. He didn't have many friends, but he always saw a young woman named Amelia whenever he went to town to sell catches. They eventually fell in love and he dedicated his earnings to helping start a family of his own. His father drowned and life at the fishery became difficult until it closed, with Amelia getting pregnant soon afterwards. Arnold tried his hand at numerous different jobs but nothing stuck. Nothing ever came up how he wanted, or needed. Some school pals of his tracked him down one day and told him about a big score they needed his muscles for. It took him a week to consider it. He never went out of line and always wanted to earn an honest living. But how his life seemed to be going, that would be impossible at this rate. He agreed and they robbed a jewelry store together, with Arnold taking home over $2500 as part of his share.
That was enough to get a place for him and Amelia to stay, but she hated how dirty the money felt. He had to swallow his pride and go on more jobs, eventually earning enough for their daughter Joyce to be born. Eventually, Arnold felt the cold chill of regret run up and down his spine. Joyce, although she was born healthy, developed into a sickly and frail young girl. The medical bills and rent was piling up. Amelia threatened to leave if he didn't get an actual job and earn some money, but Arnold couldn't get everything done on a steady paycheck. They both knew that. They'd be homeless, and Joyce would die.
He called up his friends and took one last job, the biggest one of their careers.
They held up an armored car on the side of a swamp road and started packing away bags of money. Arnold was promised at least $15,000... it'd be perfect! But one of the guards tried being brave and opened fire, injuring one of Arnold's partners and scattering the rest. Arnold returned fire, killing him instantly, and the other guard drove off in a blind panic.
He turned to where his friends were parked, intent on getting away as well. They had driven off without him, leaving him behind as the sole witness to a first degree murder that he committed. He started hyperventilating and dragged the body into the swamp. He disposed of it in a crocodile-infested pond and watched as the skin broke, flesh splattered, and bones cracked. He had nowhere to go, no money to bring home, and he feared that his partners would turn him in. He couldn't go to jail... and in that darkest hour he heard a voice rattling like rain on a tin roof.
All Arnold wanted was his daughter to be healthy and for his wife to be happy. He didn't expect it to come to this, with the Devil of all creatures on God's green Earth to approach him out of the cold black midnight.
Mephisto extended a hand, intent on making good on that deal... for a price. For Joyce's health, Arnold would be damned in her place. For Amelia's happiness, he could never see either of them again. Arnold swallowed his pride once again... and agreed.
He became part of Mephisto's Red Haven, scattered amongst the Lost Souls until he managed to build a club for himself. Though the clientele he hosts at the Thirsty Crocodile certainly provides a level of entertainment, it is hardly a suitable replacement for what he lost.
Even as a humanoid representation of his nightmarish last night as a mortal man, from the teeth and scales right on down to his tail, he still knows how to shed tears.
Hector, Oliver, and Ricky
Name: Hector, Oliver, and Ricky
Birthplace: northern Georgia
Height: 10"
Hair Color: blonde fur
Eye Color: green
Instrument Specialty: none
Biography:
The upbeat and childlike bat-imps employed at Red Haven Talent Management are strange creatures that seem to be completely unaware of their surroundings or circumstances. Red Haven is all they have ever known, and that is no fault of their own. Their origins are only available to a few and perhaps it is better that way.
The parents of the three flying troublemakers were in debt to Mephisto for some unknown transaction made before the conception of the three children. With their mother being pregnant with triplets, the couple couldn't maintain their end of the bargain and were on the verge of having their souls taken prematurely. That's when they offered something else instead. In exchange for more time on their contract with Mephisto, they bargained their unborn children so that perhaps they could meet the terms set out by the Devil.
Not one to argue such a sinister payment, Mephisto agreed and whisked the children away.
Ever since then, they have been honorary helpers and talent seekers so that they could at least have fun meeting new people.
Kacey
Name: Kacey Robinson
Birthplace: Atlanta, Georgia
Height: 5' 2"
Hair Color: blonde
Eye Color: blue
Instrument Specialty: spoons
Biography:
Kacey graduated top of her class and attended college to become a civil engineer, intent on improving Atlanta's infrastructure based entirely on how much her father complained while driving around the city. She married her high school sweetheart, Jason. Four years later and they were preparing to start a family. Jason anticipated receiving a huge promotion and practiced day and night for over a month on his presentation for work. His superiors didn't tell him that the meeting they wanted with him involved a huge corporate merger that pushed his promotion chances down by over two years. He would get a bonus for his troubles, but it paled in comparison to what he had been preparing for. He became depressed and fell into alcoholism like his father.
Within a few months, he was told that he was no longer being considered for a promotion. After a few more weeks, he was unceremoniously fired for gross negligence of corporate policy. Kacey tried comforting him as best she could, but her new job as an apprentice for the city's head engineer took her far and away from their quaint apartment home for ten hours a day during a business week. He grew to resent her for her seemingly unimpeded success and called off multiple opportunities to get together with friends and families, intent on making her just as miserable as he was.
It didn't work and she tried dragging him out of the apartment on several occasions, only to be met with resistance. He finally snapped and became physically abusive after overhearing a conversation Kacey had with her sister on the phone, during which she vented a mixture of feelings such as disappointment and resentment. He threw her down the stairs, cracking her hip in the process, and she defended herself with a knife. He didn't take her seriously and wrestled her for the weapon, going so far as strangling her, but she managed to stab him three times until he stopped moving.
In those last few moments of her mortal human life, her thoughts raced from wanting her normal life back to judging her own perceived missteps. Should she have done something different with Jason's situation? She tried everything... or at least she thought she did.
Then, came a swift yet demanding knocking at their door. She expected her neighbors to be standing there, but when she looked through the peephole she only saw a man in a pinstripe suit with a devilish smile on his face.
He told her that he knew what she did, and that she would do best to let him in. She broke down in tears. Eventually, she conceded and cracked open the door. Before she knew it, however, he was inside. It took him a second to assess the situation. Once he came to a decision, he offered her a deal.
He would make all of it go away, but she had to sign his contract. She didn't know what to think, especially when he moved his hand through thin air and produced the pen and paper. The last thing she remembers before signing her name on the dotted line... is Jason's glassy, dead eyes staring at her from beyond the veil of life and death. Name: Sammy Hobbs

Keeping your pockets lined in Red Haven is a full-time job. Besides the endless sights and sounds to indulge in, there's devilishly delicious food from across the globe and a wealth of vintage jewelry, clothing, and artwork. It is a vibrant showcase of mankind's greatest achievements, as well as its worst flaws.
The All-American Dollar
Anything can be bought for the right amount of cash. With the stark reality of Mephisto's reign, anything that costs a dollar outside of his city's limits instead costs a nickel once inside.
The conversion rate depends on the specific time and place, but most everything is universally and charmingly cheap.
The Unfortunate and Downtrodden
For some, cash ain't enough.
Entertainers best watch out while in Red Haven, because from the moment their names are announced on Mephisto's radio show they have a target painted on their backs.
Gangs will be looking to muscle them into their night club rotations to earn more fame and notoriety at the cost of the Entertainers' individual careers and dreams.
It is a form of slavery enforced by empty promises and faulty contracts heavily favoring the Gangs that prey on desperation and misery.
Those Poor Damned Souls
The most unique and valuable currency in Red Haven is that used exclusively by Mephisto. Hell churns with the suffering of those doomed to experience it for eternity.
Whether by hook or crook, Mephisto has amassed a monstrous fortune of festering pain and agony. With how he runs his operation, it's no small wonder how he's at the top of the mountain.
Dealing with the Devil
The ultimate aspiration of any ambitious Entertainer is to make it against all the odds. Sometimes those dreams become reality. If they're particularly skilled - or just damned lucky - they can best everyone else and challenge Mephisto to a Face-Off for his coveted wish-making deals.
If they win, then anything their hearts desire comes true. But the Devil is a fickle creature, and his cruelty has been documented since the beginning of time. He can just as easily turn a dream-come-true into a living nightmare.
There are, of course, those that don't even get that far. Losing a showdown with the Devil is a one-way ticket straight to the bottom.

The vast majority of criminal activity, law enforcement, economical infrastructure, and media saturation is done through what is collectively known as the Suits. They are four massive groups that collectively provide the financial foundation for Red Haven. While Suits all have a hierarchy ending with a Top Cat, there are numerous splinter factions that are not loyal to them. They all still fear Mephisto enough to not get on his bad side. Trafficking Entertainers and using them to fight proxy wars through bankrupting, buying, or otherwise muscling their way across multiple night clubs in order to take business away from other Suits is not out of the question - in fact, it's the name of the game.
Clubs
Top Cat: Flint Samson
The Clubs are notorious for being the most outwardly brutal of the Suits. They possess the highest percentage of former mobsters and violent criminals and often export their members to other Suits for protection, debt collection, or to muscle in on other territories. As a result of this, the Clubs also have a higher rate of infighting due to the most numerous splinter factions funded by other Suits or just because these upstart leaders want to be the next Top Cat. It's a common joke that even if the Clubs managed to put aside their differences and unite, they'd just kill each other for the scraps left behind after the resulting gang war.
Diamonds
Top Cat: Giovanna Fontana
As is expected of their glamorous appearance on a deck of cards, the Diamonds Suit has a long history of maintaining most of the finances in Red Haven. From simple merchandise to expensive jewelry, the Diamonds can easily buy whatever they want and run the streets... if they just combined bank accounts. The Diamonds are just as fractious as their gems are multifaceted, with each high-end marketer thinking themselves the next millionaire. No one ever wants to share, and the Diamonds exemplify this by fighting petty battles on the streets with just about anyone and looting the pockets of the corpses left behind.
Hearts
Top Cat: Rico Fuentes
While the Clubs are obsessed with muscle and the Diamonds try to buy their way to victory, the Hearts are skilled with making everyone else as poor as possible. It's not farfetched to say that all the casinos in the city are rigged, but if it were obvious then they wouldn't be half as popular. The Hearts try to run a monopoly on every slot machine and card table, forcing their way into other districts to collect on funds that aren't even theirs. If this were not enough, their inherent snakelike charm attracts the sleaziest scumbags around. Nothing makes a Heart sing quite like watching the misery of someone down on their luck.
Spades
Top Cat: Tobias Munroe
Trouble in Red Haven begins when you arrive, but doesn't end at your unfortunate demise. That's where the Spades Suit comes in. They make an absolute killing on extorting cleanup services at ridiculous prices. The dead don't clean up after themselves, after all, and the Spades make it a point to either exhume them neatly and quietly... or add to their number. This particularly makes them a menace to other Suits when they have unfettered access to the information of the deceased as well as any valuables they might have on them. Graverobbing is merely part of the process. Putting any witnesses six feet under is a rite of passage.
The Top Cats
Although the Suits all have the inherent problem of scrapping amongst themselves, none of the independent Gangs or other various splinter factions can compare in size and influences to those directly commanded by the Top Cats. They are the major shareholders of their Suits, given ludicrous power through surrendering their souls as part of sinister deals with Mephisto. Even with their exalted station, they are expected to uphold the ideals of their Suits to the fullest. In fact, Top Cats have a higher quota than any other demon Mephisto's clutches. They're expected to personally deal with many more Entertainers, either by defeating them so soundly that they're forced into making deals with the Devil or enslaving them to the music clubs.
The Devil's Hand
Leader: Mephisto
At the malignant black core of Red Haven, dead center and impaled by a massive broadcasting tower, sits the ultimate evil. Everything else branches from the Ninth Circle Radio Club, from the Neighborhoods to the shadows residing around every corner. Mephisto's ultimate goal is shrouded in mystery, but he's content with extracting every ounce of entertainment he can from the souls in his vicinity - both living and condemned. To be part of Mephisto's vanguard is to throw away your previous life, aspirations, and humanity in exchange for immortality, unparalleled wealth, and vast unholy power as a member of his demonic entourage.

The seedy underbelly of Red Haven's bustling city skyline is littered with all kinds of devious and downright deplorable acts of debauchery. Be they Human, Lost Soul, or full-blown Demon, the multitudinous Gangs all represent their own interpretation of their Parent Suit. While some might join forces with their associated Top Cat from time to time, there is no avoiding the inevitable scavenging for power. Only the exceptionally dangerous ones are listed here, with many others all vying for their own spots in the world of Red Haven with varying success.
The Terrible Titanimen
Parent Suit: Diamonds
Without flesh, there is no need to fear mortality. The fires of Hell are an inevitability. You'd might as well sink some cash into heat resistant layering. Or, at least, that is the philosophy of the bizarre Titanimen. Designed by an insane scientist, these robotic gangsters carried out the whims of their creator for years... until his contract went kaput and he went straight to Hell. Ever since then, they've organized themselves into a fascinatingly brutal debt collection force that owes its very existence to the Diamonds Suit. Without their funds, the Titanimen could never hope to afford repairs or forcibly converting new recruits into metal automatons. Their strange, stoic nature belies a collective intelligence rivalling that of your normal, everyday mobsters. Sure, they know how to throw their mechanical weight around, but they're completely average in most other aspects.
Killer Carl and the Ink Blots
Parent Suit: Spades
The Spades Suit has their fair share of maniacs and sociopaths. True, hardened murderers typically gravitate towards the Suit that can help them and everyone else conveniently "forget" about their victims. The shapeshifting nightmare known as Killer Carl is no exception, and his ability to infect Lost Souls with his inky blood has not gone unnoticed. His aggressive and downright sadistic strategies of life involve little else besides rampant butchery. He considers Red Haven to be the world's greatest playground and doesn't hide it at all, which is perhaps the sole reason Mephisto allows him to exist. He is unapologetically childish and is obsessed with having as much fun as possible tormenting and twisting his victims beyond recognition. Sometimes the ink runs thicker than the blood he sheds, but most of the time it is completely indistinguishable.
Henry Smokestack's Railroad Quartet Parent Suit: Clubs
Just like any Club worth his grit, Henry Smokestack runs an ironfisted monopoly on however many railroad tracks he can control at any given time. He and his posse roam across Red Haven end to end, breaking whatever they can't outright bully into submission. He pride himself on not only his physical prowess, but also the harmonizing skills between himself and his closest confidants. Together, they've earned quite the reputation as event singers for prominent high-end Clubs mob bosses and their families. This is most likely the reason why his own Gang hasn't been disintegrated entirely due to how he conducts himself: a combination of sheer grit against, primarily, other Suits as well as his reliability when it comes to entertaining birthdays, weddings, bar mitzvahs, office parties, garden dinners, restaurant openings, et cetera.
Dr. Armageddon's Apocalyptic Swing Opera Parent Suit: Diamonds
When she was just a poor Lost Soul, the unnamed vagabond that would become the fearsome Dr. Armageddon despised every notion of belonging to a Suit. She eventually joined with the Diamonds upon seeing their vast networks of coffers and wealth. She robbed one of her rivals blind, using those same funds to create her first flying death machine. Once she vaporized several more of her nemeses, she earned a formidable reputation as a brilliant inventor. She fashioned herself an intimidating suit of armor and took to the skies on a series of ever-improving floating engines of destruction. Though she doesn't necessarily see the value of weaponizing music in the same way as Mephisto, she still follows the principle and uses it to devastating effect due to her prowess with machines. As Dr. Armageddon, she has vowed to conquer Red Haven once and for all!
Boston Barney's Bumping Boxing Machine
Parent Suit: Clubs
On the contrary to the ingenuity of some of the more esoteric Gangs of the Diamonds Suit, humble Barney has used his immense strength and fighting skills in the world of fisticuffs to bully and belittle his way to the top in other ways. He has forcibly assembled a skilled task force of engineers and craftsmen to create a giant walking exoskeletal suit that follows his every move. With this monstrous contraption, he has made it to the upper echelons of the Clubs Suit through pure brute strength. Despite this, he can't exactly negotiate at a table. He despises any sort of hard thinking, and would rather just flaunt his excessive knowledge of boxing over those who would even attempt to talk to him about business mergers or potential gross domestic product. He is the champion for a reason - and it doesn't require him to know how to read!
Sally Glasgow and the Smiling Valentines
Parent Suit: Hearts
While it is widely known that the Spades attract the worst in Red Haven, nobody said they had to stay there. Sally Glasgow is an ideal example of that dedication to nobody but herself. She thought long ago that she needed to be someone's arm candy to be useful. When no one would stay by her side, she gave up and drifted from place to place until she found her way into the Hearts Suit. There, she had all the suitors she could ever want! She was showered in attention at all times and her groupies called themselves her Valentines, even going so far as to wear smiling masks so that only she could see their faces. From that point onward, she's carved a path of absolute terror across Red Haven with every intent on leaving a trail of smiling corpses in her wake. It's her greatest gift to her unknowing, and often unwilling, Valentines!
Baron Blueblood and the Bad Luck Boys
Parent Suit: Hearts
In complete contrast to some others who represent the Hearts Suit, Baron Blueblood knew exactly where he belonged. He made a name for himself from the starting gun with his snobbish demeanor and fine eye for the good things in life. He rose through the ranks at a meteoric pace, earning dough and making bullet holes in equal measure. He participated in several massacres carried out on rival gangs, known for his signature pose and turning up his nose at the carnage. He now runs a prominent casino in the Kings of Hearts Neighborhood, where he believes with every ounce of his being that he is actual - undeniable - royalty. He is a major thorn in Rico Fuentes's side who, even as a Top Cat, struggles to contain the sheer ego of the Baron and his skyrocketing ambition.
The Dreadful Postmortem Dissection Crew
Parent Suit: Spades
Perhaps some of the best necromancers in Red Haven, these ghoulish creeps are renowned for raising entire ballrooms of skeletons just to add that extra eerie pizazz to their freak shows. Hordes of zombies stamp their feet in excitement while mummified backup singers mimic the choruses of a hundred freshly excavated smash hits. No one really knows who leads the Crew, since their members often join the ranks of the cobbled-together crypt terrors under mysterious circumstances. The cyclic nature of their numbers reflects a nightmarish trend within the Spades Suit and the Gangs associated therein: if you can't be the most frightful of them all, you'd might as well start digging your own grave. This is especially true for the Crew, who fleshes out their workforce with the dead of any rival Gangs that cross their path.
Psycho Sid's Symphonic Siegeworks
Parent Suit: Clubs
Nothing beats music in the world of Red Haven, and where there's music there has to be volume! No one understands that more than Psycho Sid, whose menacing speakers convert the hippest grooves and moves into ear-blasting quakes of sonic force. No one can resist the wall of sound that he creates - but that's mostly because of how the vibrations make them dance and quiver in place! He's often been called out as a cheater and a fink. But he doesn't care how he wins his fights if winning is all that matters in Red Haven! The one with the longest undefeated streak gets to be on top. That means the one with the best audience reaction becomes undefeated... and what better way to secure the audience vote than to drown out all other sound?! So swing, you sinners, swing! Obey the adrenaline-pumping sensation of the Siegeworks!

Defending yourself in Red Haven has never been easier! Drop on by to your local arms dealer and strap up! From simple handguns for personal touch to heavy artillery for a more "spray and pray" mentality, there's something for everyone! Don't be ashamed, either. Every weapon is tailor-made to be simpler to use than ever before. Sometimes trying to get your instrument out just takes too much time. That is your most precious resource in a scrap, after all. Create distance or create a reason to hold a funeral. Be part of an obituary as the cause of death! It's always in style! Lock and load today!
The Chicago Piano
Typically associated with Thompson machineguns, Chicago Pianos are usually just drum-fed repeating rifles that tend to have a high hitting power but poor accuracy. They're also fantastically loud!
The Alleyway Sweeper
These can be anything that fires clouds of buckshot with varying levels of accuracy. The point is to hit a lot of things hard and fast - the closer the better!
The Devil's Paintbrush
Somehow even less accurate than Chicago Pianos, these are heavy machineguns usually mounted on vehicles or a sturdy surface. They also tend to become hot very quickly.
Old Reliable
The most easily recognizable of the sidearms available in Red Haven, these are usually flat-sided magazine-fed pistols of a larger caliber. They're mostly a statement of intimidation, but there's a good reason for that.
The Rat Eater
Smaller magazine-fed pistols fall into this category, but they're still very easily accessible and very reliable given their size and ease of repair. Lethality doesn't matter with multiple gunshot wounds, after all.
The Scorpion Sting
The middle ground between the two, these are usually revolvers and are a favorite of private investigators and detectives thanks to their combination of reliability and power.
Tooth and Nail
These are anything that can be easily concealed with the intent of getting close and bloody with a potential victim or enemy. Knives, brass knuckles, blackjacks, or railroad spikes are all common tools of the trade.
