Beck had been the only one who'd brought food, and half an apple and a few bits of dried steak was anything but a proper meal after the day they just had. The brunette rushed to get her share while trying to look like she wasn't rushing that much, and was the first one to get to the second water bottle, making sure to drink a few sips of it before it disappeared. She put the bottle back on the table and nodded at Emryk's wise words, even though she'd only heard half of it.

Caleb found himself almost chuckling at Alys' response, something he didn't think he'd be able to do for a while. He knew the wing twitch and the intense stare meant business, but it didn't stop his heart from pounding inside his chest like an idiot in a carnival. He wondered what would be worse, if they found out Alys was in it with him, or the other thing. He hadn't forgotten what had happened the last time.
If it had meant to hit him it would have, but instead, the chair Lucien threw in his direction crashed against the wall behind him. Caleb's jaw clenched but he didn't say anything in response to the vampire or the baron, who had decided to work on the crew's morale.
It didn't go unnoticed by Caleb how easily (and eagerly) Emryk filled in a leadership role whenever it was left vacant. It was definitely something he should worry about, but he'd have to do it later. Paying the baron little to no attention and in hopes no one else would either, Caleb turned away and finished off his apple on the way up the stairs, grateful that Lucien had chose to explore the other side. It was still going to be a challenge to spot Alys without being found out by Nessa.
