"That isn't so long." It occurred to Mina afterwards that this was only the amount of time it would take to get to their destination, not having anything to do with the rest of it, but... thinking about it all at once seemed too big and too full of questions for her to contemplate properly. It was much easier to handle if she broke everything down into small pieces that she could manage, and not try to worry about what came next until she was ready.
Four days until Illon. That was something Mina could manage. The rest of it, she would think about later. She would take things one day at a time - or four days, as the case might be, but she didn't need to worry about everything all at once.
Her thoughts were interrupted, not by her husband but by the ship itself, a sudden lurch as it began moving out onto the water. Mina felt a swift jolt of fear - fear of the unknown, of this all suddenly becoming quite real. Once they were away from shore, there was truly no turning back. Karn pulled out a chair and she took it, gratefully. The waves... Yes, of course.
The chair was solid beneath her. It helped, whether by steadying her physically or mentally or some combination of the two. Mina took a moment to try to adjust, although she felt like the motion of the ship was certainly going to take more than a minute or two to get used to... as was the rest of it, undoubtedly.
"Thank you. I've... not traveled by ship, before."
