The year is 2041.
It's been 19 years since nuclear warheads devastated the planet.
The lucky few that survived are now faced with a nuclear winter.
-------------------------------------
Backstory
-------------------------------------
The early days of the disaster had people blaming and pointing fingers at countries, companies and religious groups for the collapse of society, but the smart ones quickly realised that none of that mattered anymore. Only survival. Those that refused to adapt to the new way of life were quickly snuffed out, one way or another.
Everyone began to fight tooth and nail to stay alive in the desperate times that followed the months after the bombs fell, only for many to fall victim to the slow, cruel death of the nuclear winter that creeped in behind it.
Extreme weather conditions become an everyday occurrence, the average summer day had dropped by up to 20 °C (36 °F) in core agricultural regions of the US, Europe, and China, and as much as 35 °C (63 °F) in Russia and Canada. Many desperate survivors looking to stay warm turned to the smoldering craters left by the warheads, only to find that the radiation would just as easily melt away flesh as it did snow.
Cities had turned to scorched wreckages of ash and burnt stone. Whatever was preserved by the firestorm had long been looted or lost to time all together. Rural towns buffeted with heavy snowstorms have made many of them almost impossible to find, with just as many rivers and lakes now frozen over.
While only a few wildlife remain in the frozen wasteland, the animals and plant life accustomed to arctic environments have flourished in the last few years with many believing the radiation has aided this burst of life.
The few survivors that now dot the last holdouts of inhabitable land have banded together into various warring tribes and factions, each trying to carve out a piece for themselves in what little remains of the broken world. Some have built makeshift settlements out of whatever materials they can find. Some are keeping warm in large underground caves. Some brave souls are nomadic, braving the cold in search for warmth and food each day.

Current Location
----------------------------------
Our story begins with one of these pockets of society. A cluster of converted cargo ships stuck out in the newly frozen parts of the North Atlantic Ocean, close to the coast of New Jersey. "The Fleet" as it is referred to by the occupants, consists of 3 main cargo ships and a handful of smaller vessels that are almost completely taken by the ice and snow.
The Hume houses the all-important boilers that are used to heat the makeshift hydroponics and keep the bedding areas warm at night. The Maddiston is mainly used for storage of the various spare parts gathered from scavenging trips and to store foodstuffs. The 3rd ship the Lockeport, is partially submerged with the bow of the ship broken and now covered in a thick layer of ice.
-----------------------------------
Call to Action!
------------------------------------
Elected leader of The Fleet, Captain Yvonne Merav has asked for volunteers to venture out on a scavenging party in search for spare parts for the makeshift lighthouse built atop the bridge of the Lockeport.
Are you willing to go out into the frozen wastes? Why risk the many dangers? Perhaps you have nothing to lose. Maybe you're looking to find something more than just spare parts. Or could you just be looking for adventure outside of this mundane, cold new life.

Heya!
Still quite new to all of this so be nice 😛
Currently trying to gauge interest in the concept and potential for storytelling. Left a number of details about the state of the world ambiguous for some joint world-building through character backstories and through our travels!
I've got a small framework for where this can all head but would much prefer the story to organically grow!
Feel free to reach out to me here on or discord (CinnamonStickk#9877) if you have any questions!
Will be posting up a CS soon but if people are faster than me, here is the template I will be using:
