Grace’s story was remarkably uneventful. Surprisingly, even. The warlock had obviously omitted a few details and Kore couldn’t conceal the mild look of… let’s say “disappointment” on her face. While everyone was chatting, a server with a colossal tray of food made her way over. How that lady balanced it all on one hand was beyond me.
"My story…”
She started passing out everyone’s food and drinks. Wasn’t particularly difficult when there was only one person who hadn’t ordered a burger.
It was at that point in time that most waiters would have packed up their things and left. But this one seemed to want to hang around for some reason. Kore glanced up at her, expectantly.
Kore paused to think for a second. Given the present company, the first answer that came to mind was “I probably do”. But, given the disposition of present company, what she ended up saying was-
As the waitress took her leave, the devil instantly found herself captivated by the seductive aroma of fresh strawberry flapjacks. The addition of syrup only made them more tantalizing. Like a woman possessed, knife and fork found their way into her hands. And, with surgical precision, she divided the hotcakes into god-knows how many even, bite-sized pieces. One of them quickly found its way onto a fork only to grace her tongue moments later.
An eruption of flavor washed over her taste buds and sent shivers through the rest of her nervous system. Why, it was so magnificent that she couldn’t help but let out a little moan as a small trail of syrup dripped down from the edge of her mouth. And, when she finally opened her eyes-
-she realized that Grace was still watching her, expectantly.
She spoke with flapjack-muffled words. Kore took a second to wipe the tree-sap from the edge of her mouth with a napkin before she continued.
At least the parts that you couldn’t just read online and that Carmen and Sacha hadn’t already heard like a hundred times. Kore would then allow herself to be swept away by her food and it would be quite some time before anyone heard another peep from her. Well, okay.
Before anyone heard another word from her, anyways.
"My story…”
"Hey Kore!” the server chimed in.
"Hey.”
”Hey Onigirl! Hey, the rest of Kore and Onigirl’s friends! You guys are just gonna love all of this; the chef put his heart into your food, especially!”
She started passing out everyone’s food and drinks. Wasn’t particularly difficult when there was only one person who hadn’t ordered a burger.
"A double-helping of maple sausage for you, little Ms. Demon Hunter. On the house. So, don’t forget to prioritize us if we ever have to report a disturbance!”
"Okay,” the devil replied, with a chuckle.
"And an extra burger and large side of fries for you, Onigirl. On the house. We had a feeling that you’d appreciate it.”

"Hey Kore, do you know The Black Knight?”
"The what?”
"The uh… The Black Knight. They saved my life back at the music festival. I figured you might, because you tend to know everybody.”
Kore paused to think for a second. Given the present company, the first answer that came to mind was “I probably do”. But, given the disposition of present company, what she ended up saying was-
"No, sorry. I heard that they were a little skittish at the end there.”
"Yeah, I did too. Well, if you do meet them, tell them that Jesse from Velvet Sunset said thanks. And that we’ll be real good to them and throw in a little extra if they swing by for a bite.”
"Sure thing.”
"Thanks.”

"OH! Story. Right.”
She spoke with flapjack-muffled words. Kore took a second to wipe the tree-sap from the edge of her mouth with a napkin before she continued.
"I was the kid who got bullied a lot for having weird eyes. Then, puberty hit and I realized just why my eyes were violet. Then I had a pretty bad existential crisis. Well, a few crises, really. But, my step dad helped me get my head on straight and figure a lot of things out. Then, I proceeded to be the most rebellious daughter in history. That’s my story.”

"Did you guys want a little extra help training Grace? I don’t know anything about flying and you seem to have swordsmanship covered, but I can provide a giant monster for mock battles if that’s the kind of thing that you’re worried about.”
