> Took days, but I finally managed to get this hunk of junk working without screaming or literally just bursting into flames. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to come by usable parts nowadays.
Unfortunately it just looks like this thing is gonna become a glorified typewriter, since almost all of the other trash on here is bogged one way or another. I should just count the miracles I got
while I still can. The last thing I remember to grab on runs is paper and pencils- I was, luckily, thinking enough to grab this thing on my last one, along side the food I could scrape up. Food
is easy enough to come by, but food I look forward to actually eating for once is a whole other story. Cans of green beans are unfortunately at common in my neck of the woods.
Can't hate those finds enough.
Christ, and I thought I rambled bad when I actually talked to people. I guess I should type up something interesting in here just in case someone other than me reads this, huh? Hah, over my dead
body... most likely.
Well, to be honest? I wasn't anything special before everything went to shit. I worked a shit job, got shit pay for shit hours, got treated like shit by everyone, classic stuff. Life was cushier, sure, but
having more lettuce on your burger doesn't take away the buns made from live rabid rats. At least the shitter places back then were honest about what they were gonna give you: shit. Here?
they told you to be grateful at every turn even when those turns led straight into a trashcan with a good weighted lid to slam on your ass when you got shoved in it. Got so bad, people didn't
bother faking the smiles and laughs after a while. There were days where I'd step out onto the street and everyone would look so... blank. Indifferent. So downtrodden with their situation, but so
powerless to do anything about it.
Who knew all it took was for the lights to stop turning on one day. All it needed was all those conveniences that barely made everyone's meaningless subservient existence bearable to be stripped
away over night, and the streets ran red. I'll keep most of the details to myself, but I will say that every branch on every tree in town was weighted that day. It wasn't just the overlords that got
dished violence, though. Some of those in the faceless mass lashed out at everything. Wasn't even 24 hours before the first house was broken into while the family was unfortunately at home. They
really...really wronged those people. 48 hours and an apartment was burned down with half the residents inside. So people got antsy about their own homes and families. Of course, some idiots
blamed the whole mob, others realized that really fucked up people just liked to take advantage of situations for their own benefit. What benefit came from killing 2 parents and a small child for a
crowd? Couldn't tell ya. All I can say is when troops rolled in, they didn't care who did what or why.

> What does it mean to be a warrior? Not a soldier, no. Anyone can get paid to wear a uniform and hold a weapon. Any person can be told to stand in a spot and watch a
general direction. What makes a warrior? Is it purely skill, or can it be by wits alone? Is it something you are born with, or grow into? Is it a burden or perhaps a curse?
Can one be given nothing: no skill, no wits, a broken body, a ravaged mind; can even the most blighted of life still stand shoulder to shoulder with those we dub as warriors?
In these times I've seen every kind of person claim the title of warrior. I called some fools... I respected others. Most stayed as faceless to me as I was to them. It feels weird
being in what most would consider a dire situation, but I still find the time to ask foolish questions. I make it by, at least, and that's really all I can ask. I'm not naïve enough
to think it was all luck, but I don't think I still earned most of the steps I've made on this path. I guess the one requirement you must have if you try to claim the title of warrior
is respect for yourself. It's the only thing that will ever help with the burdens you'll be shouldered with.
It's been a few months since the nats patrolled anywhere outside the cities. The words I heard around say that they've started building walls around the largest cities.
Well... the parts they didn't scorch. No one claimed the head of the government. Most are just claiming cities and forming new city-states. Shit I even heard of at least 3
"kings" that managed to take the head of a town or two. Noble families and all. What a joke. I had a lot of guesses when they started predicting the flares, but kings
