Name: Galen Ostwick
Age: 27
Race: Human
Appearance: Having grown up as a minor noble and spent time in high society, Galen has learned that the way someone presents themselves matters, and as such will also attempt to groom his physical appearence. Since his imprisonment, Galen's normally short black hair has grown long, and so he combs it back out of his eyes, a few strands not withstanding. With his dagger, he likes to keep his beard well trimmed and kept short. Spending the last few years in many archaeological digs in the southern deserts, his skin has darkened, which suits his dark green eyes.
Tall and slender, Galen wears armour that suits his combat style. While his right hand side is only protected by a leather vambrace and pauldron due to having his sword to protect it, his left hand side is fully protected by a length of articulated plate armour that runs the full length of his arm. Wearing light chainmail with a long black leather gambeson, Galen prefers lighter armour to aid in mobility, wearing no leg protection other than his thick leather boots in order not to hinder his footwork. To protect himself from the cold of the Forsaken Lands and Karuzgard, Galen wears a simple black cloak that runs down across his right arm that he can pull around himself for warmth, held in place by a simple iron clasp.
Weapons/Magic: Galen typically fights like a spellsword, using martial and magical talents to defeat his opponents. Preferring to wield swords to any other weapons, Galen will use equipment provided to him by the Order, as well as keep a small dagger on his belt. Will never fight with a shield, using his free hand to cast spells.
Having studied magic at one of the academies, Galen followed the path of pyromancy in order to burn away any who would stand in his way. Wether through a concentrated fireball or a burst of flame up close, he is confident fighting at range or up close. Galen can also support his allies with various buffs including reducing fire damage, enchanting their weapons with fire or increasing their mobility. As such, he can adapt to whatever the Ashen Knights require.
Order Power: Golden Seraph
As the ritual drove the fire inside him wild, Galen struggled to control it and barely survived, taking the appearence of a heavenly avenger. In return, the pyromancy powers Galen has have been greatly enhanced, his normal red flames replaced with a brilliant gold that he can use to craft spectacular firestorms. Galen can also summon a pair of burning gold wings to aid in his mobility in and out of battle, letting him close the distance between him and his foe. His dark green eyes are also traced with rays of gold, granting him innate darkvision. These new powers have a price however.
While the heat of the flames are powerful, they also scorch the spellsword's soul. As Galen draws more power from them, fissure open up in his skin from which pours golden light, his eyes fill with the same golden flames that threaten to burn the wielder away. As such combat is more of a balancing act for Galen, having to balance the need to draw power with his own wellbeing.
Bio: Hailing from a small and insignificant fiefdom, Galen comes from the small noble family ruling over the land. Despite not being well respected in higher society, infact having little sway within the royal court of the king, Galen's father Henryk has always ruled over his land fairly and diligently. Henryk always hoped his eldest son would follow in his footsteps, but Galen had little interest in ruling and instead was fascinated with history, especially that concerning the lost Dwarves. When he came of age, Galen travelled the world to broaden his horizons and search for lost ruins. He spent years travelling to various academies where he learnt pyromancy, and kept his sword skills sharp by defending his digs alongside a group of mercenaries from bandits seeking to steal the artefacts they found. Life was good, and Galen was content to continue his way of life until the death of his younger brother.
While Galen was exploring the world, his brother Godfrey had assumed the responsibilities he left behind. Strong and smart like their father while also stubborn and headstrong like Galen, Godfrey proved to be a promising young lord. However when a neighbour noble's son offered insult, Godfrey challenged him to a duel and defeated him. Not content to live with the humiliation however, the noble's son ambushed Godfrey as he toured the fiefdom and murdered him, taking the family sword as well. Furious, Henryk petitioned the royal court for justice, but the noble had enough sway to get his son off without punishment. Suffering from the death of his youngest son, the stress causes Henryk to fall ill and die before Galen could return home. Rather than take his father's place, Galen made his way to the noble's territory with several mercenaries in tow to lay out his demands.
The return of his family sword, and the death of those responsible for Godfrey's murder.
Upon hearing his request, he was laughed out of the noble's court with jeers to try once more at a court of law. Galen was not his father however, and returned that night to set fire to the nobles manor using his magic. As the family attempted to escape, Galen and his men overpowered their guards and slew each and every one, retrieving the sword and leaving as the flames engulfed part of the town. When word reached the ears of the royal court, they called for his head and royal guards moved to arrest him and his family. When approached however, Galen explained he had not taken his father's mantle of lord or patriarch, and as such his family was innocent. Taking him and leaving his mother and elder sister to manage their land, they brought him to Fort Kransk to await judgement. Luckily for himself, a Knights Viligant known as Ashe Blackwell was visiting, and conscripted Galen before his sentence could be passed down. With little choice and the chance to visit and great Dwarven fortress, Galen joined the rest of the criminals in their caravan to Karuzgard.
